I have a question regarding whether or not something would be classed as cheating and this includes Books made by fans. Can you give advise?
If you are playing any Book set in The World of Magamund, are using a guide to beat it and at 1 point in the book you are at a paragraph with 2 options and the guide specifically states that 1 of those choices leads to instant death would it be classed as cheating if you only turn to the instant death paragraph to see how you die, then you turn to the previous paragraph and keep playing?

Dude, using a guide is cheating to begin with… And, seriously, you need a guide for this? I get using a guide for something like Skyrim, Fallout or other massive games with potentially hundreds of hours of play-time. But the LW books are 350 sections. Some basic trial and error should see you through.

I don't understand why anyone would use a walkthrough for a game book like this. If you wanted to experience a story with just one path through it, you could read regular fiction. Putting that aside, I'm not too hung up on what is cheating or not. It's not a competitive game against another person. I think you can have whatever experience makes you happiest.
I am going through the whole series myself right now. I am mostly trying to go straight through without backtracking or fudging die rolls, but that's only because I want to experience the books the way the author planned. In places where that gets frustrating, I make adjustments to smooth out the rough edges. For example, if I get a series of improbably bad die rolls and it gets me killed, I don't start over and re-read the sections I just went through. I simply carry on.
It's cool that you want to do the right thing, but please just enjoy yourself.
