I have a question about Adagna. Can you answer it?
If you use Adagna Leaves you have a chance of becoming addicted to it and suffering the permanent loss of 4 Endurance
But if you have The Skill of Herbmastery, which sadly Lone Wolf can't get, and are A Kai Grand Defender or higher then your character has the power to neutral toxins in organic materials, which means you could purify Adagna and still get +6 Combat Skill and would do so without running the risk of permanently losing 4 Endurance?
So is this inconsistency regarding Kai Grand Defender Rank or Higher Herbology a mistake on the part of Ben and his late father Joe? or am I wrong and the chance of becoming addicted if you use it is not due to some form of toxin in Adagna Leaves?

Hard to say. Addiction in the real world is not a case of being poisoned. The substance (booze, drugs, etc) alters your body or brain chemistry in a way that you find yourself unable to cope without it. Thus you seek it out again, and the cycle repeats.
But due to gamebook limitations, Adgana addiction has been oversimplified to be merely a general weakening of your body. If one considers that to be due to the toxic nature of the plant, then uber-level Kai Healing should be able to deal with it. I mean, at that point you can regrow freaking limbs, so…

You are suggesting that you could purify Adagna as though the positive and negative attributes are separate things. My take is that the herb does its work on you and that's how you get addicted. So I think a Kai Lord with Herbmastery could keep the Adagna from working on him, but then he wouldn't get the benefits either.
Do you know what, though? If you get to be a Kai Grand Defender with Herbmastery and you find some Adagna, then I think you could develop a new strain that is less addictive. Gregor Mendel used peas to pioneer genetics in the 1800s and he lived in a monastery. Lone Wolf pushed the Kai Disciplines farther than anyone before him, and he is the one instructing you. Maybe he would even let you use the Lorestones for your work.
If your Kai Grandmaster wants to work on that in between Books 24 and 25, then I think you can carry some of your new Adagna with you after that. Distill it into a potion and name it after yourself. Each dose still counts as one backpack item.
