So, a while back I made the mistake of deciding I wanted to buy physical copies of all the Lone Wolf books! :-)
I've most of them now - went with the originals if each series, I.e. Sparrow for 1-5, Beaver for 6-12, Red Fox for 13-20 and the CE's for 21-32.
Needless to say, books 21, 22 and 29 are my problem as I really can't justify spending the kinds of amounts they're going for.
However I've made an offer of €150 plus postage for the CE of book 21 which may be accepted by a seller in France but he doesn't use PayPal.
Alarm bells right there, needless to say, but he proposed to ship me the book and I'd pay after I get the tracking details.
Is this dodgy? Apparently he's sold lots of books over the years but I'm a bit uncomfortable...
What do you guys reckon?

Just to add, this guy's connected with the ill fated Megara project. More alarm bells sounding here.

Yeah, I was about to ask you if it was THAT guy... He was also connected to the LW MMORPG which also ended badly...
Well, because it is THAT guy, you can think of two things: first, he really needs the money, so it is not to his advantage to steal it from you since he is so well-known in the community and will want to sell the rest of his books (you will probably also be able to easily track him if he screws you since he is probably linked to Megara successor, Brocéliandes). The second thing you might think about is that he just really don't care of his reputation and will do everything he can to get money. The choice is yours but I don't think someone not using PayPal is automatically a bad guy (Magnamund.com started without the PayPal option).

That's really useful. Yeah it's him, though I see he's got a chain of messages in the FB group going back months with fewer books for sale each time, and there haven't been any angry responses to the previous ones, so it's likely he's going to send me my book if I send him my money. Morally I'm not delighted to be supporting him but that's maybe a decision for others more closely involved with the previous history...

That is a good price for CE21 if it does come through okay. Just make sure the tracking info he sends you is real before you send your hard earned money.
The interior art in the CE is (in my opinion) significantly superior to the original Red Fox version. I don't think Red Fox 21 was illustrated by the late great Brian Williams, so it didn't look quite right. The CE version has a style a little more similar to Williams' work, and the two pictures of Oriah are very splendid indeed!

I don't think Red Fox 21 was illustrated by the late great Brian Williams, so it didn't look quite right. The artist was Trevor Newton as Brian Williams was busy with "The Skull of Agarash". |

I should probably ask this on Facebook but the ad for the book was removed from the Lone Wolf group and I'm seeing 2 possibilities.
1 - the group removed it because it's not great to have ads and maybe our friend's not the most popular guy (fair enough)
Or, and the reason I'm posting here...
2. He's removed it himself as evidence of why I might send him my hard earned cash
If he's removed it himself I'm bailing out of this transaction

Or maybe he sold the books? Of course, he could had just updated the original post saying the books were sold instead of removing the actual post but that wouldn't be the first time he acts differently than what we could expect. Just saying.

Anyway the latest on this is that he came back a few days ago and was keen to go ahead with the deal. I reckon he's un-anonymous enough that it's a safe bet so I've gone ahead with it. Looking forward to (hopefully) receiving the book! Will post on here what happens next...
