I heard that the Chaos Master is a difficult battle with the Sommersword(and with 44/68, he is).
But as I went through the books, I noticed how high my Combat Skill was getting.
16 initially +8 with the Sommersword +3 with Weaponmastery +2 with Shield +2 with Silver Helm
That's a total of 31. And considering I'll have 8 disciplines at that point, I'll likely complete a couple of Lore-Circles and have the 20 Endurance regen.
So difficult? Maybe, but it doesn't seem as insermountable as I've been led to believe.
So was the battle changed to make it easier? Or was a tough fight in a late book blown out of proportion?

I don't know where your stats come from. The Project Aon/Collector's Edition stats of the Chaosmaster with the Sommerswerd are: CS 44, EP 62 My original book (in French), stats are: CS 47, EP 68 So unless my French version had wrong stats (because it already happened in book 22), the fight was indeed more difficult before. (I've noticed the same change of stats for this fight if you use the Ironheart Broadsword: PA/CE stats are CS 38, EP 54 while in my French original version, it's CS 40, EP 58) EDIT: old thread of PA from 2004, but it confirms the stats that I had in my old book are good (and the fact that it was modified on the PA edition at one point) and also gives clues on how to get a good CS score for this particular fight: link

What's this? Did you mean the once-per-book +20 EP emergency heal that comes with the Archmaster-ranked Curing? You can't get Archmaster in book 11.

This bonus doesn't really matter: you get a Lorestone a few sections before and get to restore all your EP. After that, it is possible to avoid a few fights to face the Chaosmaster fully healed. EDIT: ah yes, I understand now: if during the fight against the Chaosmaster, if your EP falls below 6, you can regen 20 EP, but indeed, it is only available once you've reached the rank of Archmaster, which means it's only after completing book 11 that you can use this.

CS 47 / EP 68 with the Sommerswerd and CS 40 / EP 58 with the Ironheart Broadsword.
Btw., the Mantikore edition from 2012 then went with the revised stats.
