Zakhan Kimah is not nearly as difficult as the Chaos-master I agree; using the SS I am still much closer in CS to Kimah, and have legitimately beat him on the first try much more often than I have the Chaos-master. CM I almost always have to use some form of alether, and am losing additional EP per round due to Psi-surge that makes no difference against Kimah.

I don't know, the CM only has an extra 3 CS over the Zakhan, but with Psi-Surge, that becomes an effective -1CS ratio. Add to that two more books to complete additional Lore-Circles, you'll probably have a higher combat ratio against the CM than the Zakhan, especially if you keep some Alether to use against him as well.

No one has mentioned the Psychic Ring from book 9... since the Chaosmaster isn't immune to Psi-surge, doesn't this give you significant help in beating him?

I always loved this battle because I still won, despite not being highly rated above Chaos-Master.
I'd still been sore at CM for his poor treatment of Serocca and Sinay(the Beholder) and his corruption and murder of the beautiful realms of Daziarn. I was also not fond of him, but thought of him as kind of a trickster-god in the Grey Star book(beyond the NIghtmare Gate.) Turns out he's the Naar of Daziarn--jerk.
But come on, Chaos-Master is a GOD, he SHOULD be hard. Besides, the Random Number Table, even if you were trying to be fair, usually got you decent rolls so you could win even a slightly lopsided affair.

The question is: why the hell do they even throw you agisant a god (demi god actually)? Why can't they let you avoid him or sneak past? Why would a demigod care about 1 little mortal? And how the hell does lone wolf win then?

Well, you have to read the book to know the circumstances of the duel... I don't want to spoil them for you. How does Lone Wolf beat a demi-god ? Well, Lone Wolf is quite a warrior... as almost-Kai Grand Master he is very powerful... though, not enough to win without a good serie of lucky rolls !

It's LONE WOLF. And he's nearing Grand Master status and TECHNICALLY you should still have the Sommerswerd(if a real novelization of the preferred storylines were to be made, he'd have the Sommerswerd for all times until it is passed to the next Great Kai) and the Sommerswerd has the power to dispatch EVEN Naar.
It is also likely that Chaos-Master's arrogance and expenditure of power in previous "battles of display" weakened his chosen mortal form.
Heck, the Elessin put the Threnogem in the Screaming God's mouth and he turned to stone. Mortals on Daziarn can deal with demigods.
