Yes and no. Yes being that I've finished the entire Kai series without dying, no being that I've not finished the Magnakai series without dying. I don't think I've EVER fought the Chaos Master and won on the first try. Actually, that's not true. Years ago--before I knew the correct rule--I beat him by rolling really well using the Sommerswerd. That was when I thought that Weaponskill/Weaponmastery bonuses were cumulative, and I think I ate a few handfulls of alether berries at the same time, so I was at about +3 or so. Unfortunately, I succeeded while misinterpreting the rules (it's not cheating if you don't know the rule), so I guess that really doesn't count. It is a nice goal to strive for, though. . . ;D

I have successfully completed the first twelve books of the series whilst sticking scrupulously to the letter of the rules no less than 18 times. I don't use save points and every time LW dies, it is back to the beginning with a new set of randomly rolled characteristics. However, one thing I do do is play through each book as a standalone several times until I think I have a good idea of the best route, before risking my current Action Chart. Not counting these "practices," I have made a total of 302 attempts so far. In case anyone is interested, my deaths have been as follows: Killed by Tower Guard(s) in book 9 | 44 times | Killed in combat with Zakhan Kimah | 32 times | Killed in combat with the Chaosmaster | 23 times | Killed in combat in book 17 | 3 times | Killed in combat with Burrowcrawler | 22 times | Killed in combat in Zhada's maze | 24 times | Killed in any other combat | 23 times | Killed by falling mast | 82 times | Killed by doomstone (book 15) | 6 times | Killed by acolytes of Vashna for possessing Sommerswerd (book 16) | 4 times | Killed by some other random roll causing instant death | 39 times |
I have never been further than the fight with Ixiataaga in book 17 and the last two times I have reached the GM series, I have been killed by the doomstone in book 15. That isn't my worst run of luck, however, as I once got crushed by that mast six times in a row - that's less than a one in a million chance, given that the probability of getting that far in the first place is slightly less than 1. So what I'm saying is that whilst it is difficult to get through the books without any kind of cheating or fudging, it is possible, with perseverance.

Wow, that's quite a bit of research! Thanks for sharing that, it must have been a lot of work. So what I'm saying is that whilst it is difficult to get through the books without any kind of cheating or fudging, it is possible, with perseverance. So, does that mean that the Boston Red Sox have a chance to win a World Series? *hopes so*

If you NEVER cheat, the gameplay really suffers. The only, real needed cheating is against strong bosses. If you play all the adventures of Lone Wolf, your character is way too strong to die by accident... if you don't make any choice that leads to sudden death, of course

I never cheat yeah right. Ok I TRIED not to cheat, but their were some excpetions. When rolling my scores i'd switch the numbers around or roll agian if it sucked (quite essintal really!). Now I rig my stats the legal way: Sucide in book 1 Its not illegal, its just very abusive (luckily my die liked me, so I only had to bump myself off once). Times I cheat: 2: This is just ****ing bs. This book is mostly a walk in the park, but you have to wake up a helghast, while attacking people trying to protect you. Of course if your not prepared to send your noble compain to his grave, then you still die. Oh and you can die anyway, if you lose the tough helghast fight. Yay. The only way around is to pick a 90% usless dsipline (animal kinship). Luckily i made a mental note to always take that displine, and I will make sure my firends do to. 3: Poison critters. weak and feeble unless you role a 1. **** that 6: An easy gamebook "spiced" up with some random death sequences. I'll just flip the page back, then then their was the choas god, and realising that after book 9 you HAVE to save at the start to have a hope in hell of ever seeing 350 without uber cheating. I also cheat in every grey star book except the forth. Actually the thirds so stupid, that after being killed on paragraph 1 (!!!!!), and seein the reidiculous numbe ro illogical "you die" sections, i riped it upm binned it, and told my friends to ignore the existence of that book, unless they were a machoist. Not only did the ending suck, it ruined my "enjoyment" of the matrix 3 (I wonder if neo can see a big flashing 350 as hes getting the crap kicked out of him)

oh and I cheated in grey star 2, by chaning one of my discplines to thamu. But this is another example of designed stupidity, since thamu is practically useless except for that one dam time where you get the info about shas

I loved the first grey star because I almost died, but I didn't. The same thing with the other two. For instance, I was running away in the first one and I got caught by a Mantiz soldier and I had 4 WP and 2 EP. After the first round of combat I had 3 WP and 1 EP. I thought I was going to die evading, but I didn't, and then I blew the final 3 WP at the end successfully winning with 0 WP and 1 EP. I was in a similar situation at the end of book 3, except I wasn't lucky and I died by my Jashka... then when I flipped to the next page...

I've done the Kai and Magnakai series without dying (after many, many attempts), but I promptly died in Book 13. I haven't been back to try again!

REl: I meant the one that lets your read an objects aura
Oh and I didn't cheat in book 1, I just did a magic attack x00 (using the seed) on the thing that drains your ep. It causes contiunity errors and its abusive, but hey i didn't cheat

Killed by falling mast - 82 times. Cripes. I myself was pwned by that f***ing mast twice in a row the last time I attempted a Kai/Magnakai no-cheat run. It really killed my resolve. That was quite a while ago, maybe I should try again. LOL!! ;D It's like watching the TV-edit of Robocop, or Smokey and the Bandit. (Or American gangsta rapper "Fur-Q" on the satirical comedy The Day Today.)
