Omega, I can't help but be reminded of Lord Barf from Earthbound when I see your graphic.

It's a creature from Dragon Warrior 2, is it not?
A Babble... is it a Metal Babble? I haven't gotten far enough to encounter one... I'm currently playing the game (I'm an old school RPG aficionado, hence my presence on this message board, probably) and I haven't met any gray Babbles yet.... I'm assuming it's Metal.

I do believe you're right. Wow. I never even played that game and I know of them. Still, I was a bigger fan of Earthbound, and I will always think "Slimy little puke" when I see that. And that's not a reference to Omega at all. Just to the graphic.
Feelings are easily hurt where Master Belch/Barf is involved

I'm currently playing the game (I'm an old school RPG aficionado, hence my presence on this message board, probably) and I haven't met any gray Babbles yet.... I'm assuming it's Metal. Yes indeedy. The babble creatures were introduced in DW2 and have been in every DQ/DW game since then. Uh, the only places off the top of my head where I've seen them appear in DW2 are the overworld near Tuhn, the Cave to Rhone, and Hargon's Castle 3F. Unlike the rest of the DQ games, they're actually pretty easy to kill in DW2 if your levels are high enough. Funny story about Metal Babbles... I was playing the DW3 remake on Game Boy Color and I came across a party of one Wyvern and six Metal Babbles. They're worth a sh1tload of experience in this game, around 10k each (but more if you have less than 4 allies). One of the strategies I use to kill them in that game is to cast the Chance spell (it's possible to shatter all the enemies to pieces if you're lucky), so I did. The spell confused EVERYONE in battle. All my allies, and all the enemies. Normally, Metal Babbles tend to run away, but enemies can't run away when they're confused. So my allies starting pwning each other while the Wyvern and Babbles kept using useless attacks against one another. One by one, my allies fall by their own hands until only I (the hero character) am left with about 10 HP. Confused enemies can still randomly attack you, so I'm one hit away from getting completely wiped out. Then it happened.... the Wyvern breathed fire on its own team. Now, the only sure-fire way to kill metal slimes and babbles in DW3 is to use the BeDragon spell and breathe fire on them. All six babbles were destroyed, and the last attack was my hero slicing the Wyvern for 110 damages, ending the battle. Since I had only one ally left, I received over 100,000 experience points. To those who've never played a DQ/DW game, that is an INSANE amount. I was at a really high level, yet I still leveled up three times from that battle alone. That was a good day. The end. I'm a huge DW fan in case you can't tell. 8 is coming out sometime next year, and it looks amazing (unlike 7's gut-wrenching environments). Sorry for the OMGE><TR3M3 off-topicness, but I felt inspired to share my amazingly true story.

I never cheat when I die in the gamebooks. Whenever I lose a combat or get "Your life and quest end here", I actually, physically kill myself.

Omega, that is a pretty amazing story. It's neat how when you introduce some basic governing rules and then let things proceed randomly how many possible outcomes there are... and once in a blue moon the outcomes are just outrageous like that. I've never had a DW experience like that and I've played a lot of DW myself.
Speaking of off topic... did you like DW7? I bought it recently from a secondhand game shop and I don't really like it. Though, I haven't even gotten off the starting island yet so maybe I should give it more of a chance?

Speaking of off topic... did you like DW7? Yes, I did. I liked it enough to play for over 160 hours. Seriously. The only other game I can think of that I've sunk more hours into would be Final Fantasy IV (II US). Yup, 160+ hours, and I didn't even finish everything. It's got its problems, though. The graphics are just terrible. Awful. Hidous. Let's face it, everyone... the 32-bit era of 3D, in general, is just uniformly disgusting. Sh1tty framerates, horrible grainy textures, more pop-up than an arcade full of whack-a-mole machines. Enix should've left the game 2D, it would've been great, like DQ6. I also hate how 1/3 of the skills you can learn are just copies of other skills. Specifically, there's like 80 different "lose-a-turn" skills, most of which are useless anyway, unless they affect more than one enemy. Some of the side-quests, while extremely rewarding from an item standpoint, are overly time-consuming and often just plain frustrating. The Immigrant Town and any Casino are the best examples. And finally, the random encounter rate is too damn high. I really wish game developers would slash encounter rates, up EXP and money rewards, and focus more on environments, puzzles and scenarios. I'm so sick of battling ceaslessly in console RPGs.

Amen to that. Unless the battle system is incredibly sweet... and let's face it... it ain't happened yet.
Though Parasite EVE 2's was really entertaining.

I once made it all the way to book 17 without dying. I have never reached that high since, thus I have 3 LW books that I've yet to read. I would love to read these, BUT Lone Wolf must first survive.
I've been known to give myself 1 do-over... then I feel SO GUILTY! I always restart at Book 1.
Here's a legit cheat I sometimes do... I will draw up 10 Lone Wolf characters and start Book 1 with a whole party of Kai. I think of each as being in his own parallel universe. All their CS values and EPs are different, sometimes their skills are as well. When I come to a fight, each kai must pass the combat on his own in order to live. If I lose a few along the way, at least SOME of my characters will reach the Magnakai series... of course it is REALLY HARD to reach the Grandmaster series. The instant death is worst of all. Also it is hard sometimes to win certain combats, even with the Sun-Sword.
