Ah, I see what you're saying. Generally, we've been removing confusing instructions such as "record this as a Special Item carried in your Backpack" since Special Items will always count toward your limit of 12, irrespective of where they are carried. The Zejar-dulaga in Book 12 still counts as a Special Item even though it is carried in the Quiver: "mark it on your Action Chart as a Special Item, which you carry in your Quiver. The Zejar-dulaga occupies the same space in your Quiver as a normal Arrow. If you have 6 Arrows, you may discard one in favour of the Zejar-dulaga."
There seems no good reason to add the possibility to carry the Arrow of Atonement in a Quiver rather than as a Special Item, since irrespective of where it is carried, it always counts toward the limit of 12 Special Items.

OK, the footnotes in The Hunger of Sejanoz Sections 71, 136, and 254 have been provisionally revised to the following:
This will be the footnote in the book the next time we re-release it, unless the Holmgard Press edition resolves this one way the another.

Hi all,
A few potential small corrections needed in Mydnight's Hero:
section 23 first paragraph (not sure about this, may be fine as is): As written: You tell him that in future, Corrected: You tell him that in the future,
Section 55 second paragraph: As written: He provides you with fresh horses and escorts you personally through the lamplit streets of the city of the citadel where Baron Lodamos resides. Corrected: ...of the city to the citadel where Baron Lodamos resides.
Section 59 fourth paragraph (this is dialogue and so may be acceptable as is): As written: "If you're lucky, you may be able persuade a couple o' passengers..." Corrected: "If you're lucky, you may be able to persuade a couple o' passengers..."
Section 330 first paragraph: As written: Then you cast the loop of rope at the lever it the hope of catching it and pulling it down. Corrected: Then you cast the loop of rope at the lever in the hope of catching it and pulling it down.
The above errors were all spotted in the standard internet text of LW23, if that matters. They are all small omitted or incorrect wording issues, and don't affect gameplay in any way, but seeing as JD will hopefully soon be sending this book to the printers I thought I would point them out. I really appreciate the work everyone at Project Aon puts in to make these the best editions available.

Hi there Thanks for this list of issues! Section 23 first paragraph (not sure about this, may be fine as is): As written: You tell him that in future, Corrected: You tell him that in the future, Actually, as a native British-English speaker, this is perfectly fine as-is. All the rest are very annoying OCR artefacts that didn't get picked up in editing--that is to say, they are our errors, and not present in the original printed text. Oops! Those three are fixed-in-xml and will be present in the online editions the next time we re-release Mydnight's Hero. Thanks for the kind words, as well as the list. If you happen to spot any other niggling typos, please report them. Cheers!

About Vampirium:
In both sections 245 and 304 it's mentioned, that the Xanon "have been spawned by an evil sorcery." So maybe add a footnote at the fight against the Xanon Leader (section 270), that the CS bonus of Valiance applies in this fight. (To be honst, I'm often confused with the Kai Weapon bonuses, since sometimes it's mentioned if they apply, and sometimes it's not).

This sounds valid to me. I've made the change in our source xml files; the fix will be in the online editions the next time we re-release Book 27.
Thanks for the tip! We've tried to standardise the books by adding any relevant reminders for relevant Kai Weapon bonuses to each combat. If there are any we've missed (like this one) please let us know.

Ok, I quickly went through the books with the paths schemas.
These are the ones I'm pretty sure of:
Rune War: Vorka (161) Spawnsmite. In other fights against Vorkas the bonus from Spawnsmite is mentioned, so it should apply here too
Duadon River Serpent (4/29/68/206/317) Spawnsmite
Trail of the Wolf: Helkona Kraan/Kraan (wounded)/Kraan (with wounded jaw) (17/31/64/119/213/277/311) Raumas
The Fall of Blood Mountain: Antah Wasps (33) Raumas
Vampirium: Bavazanur Leader (Winged Agarashi) (126) Raumas
The Hunger of Sejanoz: Yansi Trapdoor (magically sealed) (76) Magnara, Illuminatus
These are ones where bonuses could possibly apply, but I'm not sure, if they should (especially with Valiance, since I'm not sure, what is considered a "magical creature"):
Voyage of the Moon Stone: Oktoh (162/210/303) Firefall? Valiance? (it uses an energy/fire attack once before the fight)
Deathstalker (94/204/248/266/279) and its mate (43/60/120/300) Valiance?
The Buccaneers of Shadaki: Zhürc (11/96/131/154/176/208/270) Raumas? (It comes flying to the ship, but "Its wings shrink and melt into its shoulders" (section 230))
Mydnight's Hero: Baron Sadanzo (83) Valiance? (He uses magic, but seems to actually fight with his weapon)
Rune War: Zorkaan the Soultaker (75/92/136/154/182/264/282) Valiance? (In Trail of the Wolf, when Zorkaan possesses Xaol's body, Valiance is effective, but that may be because of the body)
Trail of the Wolf: Fydakzh (90) Spawnsmite? Valiance? (It appears magically in the room, and its head is described as "snake-like")
The Fall of Blood Mountain: Rock Golem (50/282/340) Valiance?
Shom'zaa (24/91) Valiance?
Vampirium: Sligza (97/315) Ulnarias? (The fight is in water, but not necessarily "underwater")
The Hunger of Sejanoz: Yansi Trapdoor (magically sealed) (76) Valiance? (I don't think this one applies, since the door isn't a creature, but I thought I may add it anyway just in case)
Aside from these, there are many cases where Kaistar or Sunstrike may gain their bonuses. Kaistar is mentioned sometimes (but probably not always), but I don't think Sunstrike is mentioned even once. Also, when I'm already talking about Sunstrike: I'm not entirely sure, when the its bonus may be applied ("every time you fight in daylight): Every time you fight at daytime (opposing Kaistar), only when you fight outside during daytime (ie. not inside buildings, underground, etc.), or only when the sun is visible (ie. outside and in clear weather).

Right! After discussion on the mailing list, the Project Coordinator decided that only the Ulnarias use against the Sligza is definite enough to warrant adding the reminder to the text. Sorry it took so long to get back to you about this. Thanks for making the list--definitely food for thought!

Hello Wolves,
A few ideas of footnotes that could be added. I'm not sure all these questions fit in that section of the forum (sorry if not). In the following, I'm using this notation : Book-Section (e.g. 9-182 represents Book 9, section 182).
1) At 9-182 : You can't use Special Items during the first 4 rounds. Does this apply to all Special Items or only to Weapon-like Special Items (i.e. Do you lose the Chainmail Waistcoat, the Padded Leather Waistcoat, the Silver Helm, and the Shield when falling down the stairs) ?
2) At 12-102, 12-114, 12-307 : The text indicates to double all your bonuses. Does this apply to EP bonuses (e.g. Padded Leather Waistcoat) ? Do you really double all the CS bonuses (Shield, Silver Helm, Mindblast, ...) or only the "psychic" bonuses (Mindblast or Psi-Surge) ?
3) At 14-118, 17-132, 17-310 : Does the Sommerswerd double damage against these enemies ?
4) At 15-89 in the simpler on-line edition : the "8" in the grid is false. Should be "80".
5) At 16-82 : You lose your Weapons Belt. Do you lose the Weapon-like Special Items or only the normal Weapons (I don't remember how all the Weapon-like Special Items are carried) ?
6) At 18-180 : Shouldn't you be able to re-access the Safekeeping at this section ?
7) At 18-344, 19-162, 20-121, 20-185 : Does the Sommerswerd provide a (+4) CS as you are in the Plane of Darkness ?
8) At 19-304 : The text indicate that all bonuses have been taken into account for determining the Combat Ratio and the EP of Wolf's Bane. What about the (+1 EP) extra damage per succesful round the Grand Weaponmastery could provide : (How can it be taken into account before the fight ? Does this bonus also apply to Wolf's Bane, or to no one, or only to Lone Wolf ?) Can you use an Alether Potion in order to increase the Combat Ratio (I assume you would need to cross it from the Action Chart) ?
9) At Equipment sections in Books 2 to 4 and Reader's Handbook-Topical Guide-Safekeeping : Can the safekeeping be allowed as a precedence rule in Books 2, 3, and 4 since a precedence can be applied to some other rules ?
10) At Equipment sections in Books 2 to 12 and Reader's Handbook-Topical Guide-Shield : Is there no realistic limitation to the number of Shields you can carry ?
11) At Reader's Handbook-Topical Guide-Armour : A solvation of the Armour paradox might be to consider EP bonuses just like CS bonuses : Armour pieces would not increase your natural maximum EP. However, you could benefit from their effects in fights (e.g. ignoring the first 4 EP you lose if you are wearing a Chainmail Waistcoat). This could look like it would make some fights easier since you benefit from this for each fight. However : - With the present rules, you can "Heal the Armour" by restoring more EP than a non-healer character is able to. - With this solvation, you couldn't. - Other restrictions might be added so that : - It could apply only to fights and not to other wounds (e.g. when losing 2 EP because of an Arrow shot). - It would not apply to any additional damage per round (e.g. at 6-270 or 7-325 or when using Psi-surge or Kai-surge).
12) At Reader's Handbook-Topical Guide-Healing : Does healing apply when wounded elsewhere than during fights (e.g. when losing 2 EP because of an Arrow shot, can you lose only 1 EP) ?
13) At Reader's Handbook-Topical Guide-Healing : Does healing apply when already healed in a section (i.e. when restoring 3 EP because of a rest, can you restore 4 EP) ?
Thanks in advance.

Some minor points in Grey Star the Wizard:
Section 206: You use Enchantment, yet there is no Willpower subtracted.
Section 259: In the footnote, the paragraph
is unnecessary, because at that time you don't have your staff anyway.
Section 281: The case, if your Willpower score is exactly 10, is not covered.
Edit: On the "Magical Powers" page, the picture for the staff isn't displayed, because the picture is a png, but the page looks for a gif (download and "simple" online version).

Regarding section 206, it is possible that while you need to be versed in Enchantment to know how to use the Calacena Mushrooms, you don't have to expend any Willpower in doing so. I agree that the text is unclear, though. I am pretty sure this is the only time they can be used throughout the GS series, so we don't have any other examples to compare to.

Some minor points in Grey Star the Wizard: Section 206: You use Enchantment, yet there is no Willpower subtracted. I'm with Nym90 here, I think the "investment" is the Calacena mushrooms. Right you are, that paragraph can be removed. Indeed, the first option should state "10 or more".

I'd be of the opinion that this refers to Items that you are going to hold in your hands - it would make no sense for Waistcoats (or even the helmets, which would be strapped on?) to lose their bonuses here. You wouldn't be able to make use of your Shield though. I can see how a vigorous pedant could misinterpret this sentence /grins/ but I don't doubt the intention of Joe's sentence here is just to double any bonuses for psychic Kai Disciplines. 3) At 14-118, 17-132, 17-310 : Does the Sommerswerd double damage against these enemies ? The first one is a Vordak, which is an undead creature; the 2nd two are explicitly named as "Ixian undead", so yes, the Sommerswerd doubles their EP loss in each case. 5) At 16-82 : You lose your Weapons Belt. Do you lose the Weapon-like Special Items or only the normal Weapons (I don't remember how all the Weapon-like Special Items are carried) ? My opinion would be that unless you were explicitly told when you found the Special Item that it was carried in some odd non-standard way, then yes, you would lose them here. 9) At Equipment sections in Books 2 to 4 and Reader's Handbook-Topical Guide-Safekeeping : Can the safekeeping be allowed as a precedence rule in Books 2, 3, and 4 since a precedence can be applied to some other rules ? I think Joe's answer in Lone Wolf Newsletter No.7 is relevant here. Basically he pragmatically introduced more rules as the books went on, to cope with the ever-growing and unrealistic amount of 'goodies' Lone Wolf was amassing and carrying round. Really, in books 2, 3 and 4, you can't yet have found enough items to really stretch the bounds of credibility, and so wanting to leave some in "safekeeping" is a bit moot anyways! There's no need! I guess you can do if you want (it might be "Safekeeping at the Royal Armory in Holmgard" before the Monastery is rebuilt) but whether you do or don't isn't going to affect gameplay. You can certainly carry any item at all (including Backpack Items) across from one book to the next, that much was made clear by later books asking if you had any Oede (only available in Book 5!) 10) At Equipment sections in Books 2 to 12 and Reader's Handbook-Topical Guide-Shield : Is there no realistic limitation to the number of Shields you can carry ? Lone Wolf is clearly shown as only having two arms, so I doubt very much it makes sense to have 2 shields, unless you also want to find with a -4CS no weapon penalty 11) At Reader's Handbook-Topical Guide-Armour ...... Personally I find all this fretting about armour EP points to be too fussy and a nuisance for gameplay. I know it may sound counter-intuitive to "heal" a piece of armour, but I would rationalise it like this: although armour will generally prevent cutting and piercing injuries, it will not completely stop impact injuries (bruising, broken bones, etc) - so you could think of it that your "extra" EPs are due to you being able to withstand more blows/bites before getting wounded. Some people (perhaps minded of the oft-repeated phrase "...restore EPs lost in combat"?) like to make a distinction between combat EP loss and other EP loss (hunger, poisoning, other wounds, psychic...) All I would say is that if you want to do this, you can! It's only a game after all! I don't bother with it myself, though. It makes sense to me that Healing/Curing is able to slowly restore your body whatever the cause. I generally do just add my blanket "1EP per section without combat", whatever the context. Some sections are longer than others, timewise, so it balances out in terms of plausibility.

Hi feline1,
Thanks for your answers. I agree with most of them, if not all of them. I know I wrote my previous post in the form of questions. However the idea was to underline that something might be missing in the indicated sections. For instance, if I refer to footnote 3 of Fire on the Water : "The text or footnotes will always remind you to double your enemy’s ENDURANCE point loss if it is undead." Well, in the sections mentionned at my "question" 3, there is nothing like that, so the enemy at 14-118 should be interpreted as a "non-undead Vordak" which is non-sense. More generally about these questions, I think the text or footnotes or Readers Handbook should indicate all the authorized interpretations of the rules or the text, especially for the last 5 questions. A huge task, I admit it.

A huge task, I admit it. The footnotes between the books aren't always consistent, especially between (Kai / early Magnakai) and (later Magnakai / Grand Master). So the later books tend to have fewer footnotes. For example, there are more than a dozen of those "lose a weapon" instances throughout the series. Some of the earlier one's are footnoted, the later one's are not. But yeah, at least those undead combats would be reasonable to have consistently footnoted. As for how it was originally meant, no. That Sommerswerd bonus is only hastily referenced in one fight in book 18, similar to the Psychic Ring bonus in book 9. Still, it was retroactively applied to 16 and 17 with footnotes. That was an okay change though since book 17 is an unnecessary bottleneck otherwise, but of course in terms of consistency it should apply to book 19 / book 20 also. Not sure how I feel about this one. Yes. Although, in Seventh Sense you do not heal like this by default (it's an option). Yes.
