So now that we have this VERY cool forum to all talk in, and the eagerly-awaited LONE WOLF RPG is coming out next month, I thought I'd pose this question: Has anyone else ever turned the Lone Wolf books into a tabletop stand-alone RPG? I've seen several versions of how to convert Kai Lords into the AD&D system, and Wise Eagle seems to have a very good online RPG, but I'm wondering if anyone else got it to work basically the way it was with some minor tweaking to flesh out certain details like mental and physical stats, ranged combat, spell-casting, etc. Just wondering...

Surprisingly, I never actually did this. I did spend a lot of my time drawing the Sommerswerd in my grade 6 class. That sword was the paragon of coolness for me. I even had a pretty cool sword carved out of wood which in my mind was the Sommerswerd. I used to run around my farm slaying Helghasts with my brother. Ah... those were the days. Strange that I should bring this up so soon after Easter because book 2 of the series was one of the presents the "Easter bunny" left me. Yeah, I'm feeling rather nostalgic at this very instance.

I didn't either. I do play in Wise Eagle's RPG, which has been a lot of fun. Some of the posts there are really, really high quality, and do a marvelous job in presenting Magnamund in a new light.
Speaking of the new RPG, how do the release schedules of these things work? Basically, does anyone know if it'll be released in the UK next month too?

I just checked Mongoose's site, and from what I can see you should be able to get it at a few different stores that they list, or if those aren't close to you, you can probably just order it; they charge 20% above the cost of the book for shipping to the U.K. If you live near one of those stores who is a distributor, I'd say ask them; however, if there isn't a Mongoose distributor in your area, you could do the same thing as I'll be doing and just pre-order it.
Love the flashback about running around in the yard with the Sommerswerd. I'm sure if my brother and I had been a couple of years younger when we discovered the books, we'd have been doing the same thing. As it was, he came home with them one day when he was 10 and I was 15, so I'd stopped doing that sort of thing in favor of trying to "fit in" in high school. My loss...

I actually started this thread in the hope that someone else could share in my experience. I actually did this about four years ago, and built on it as I went. I had a gaming group with several people who floated in and out, and except for one person, nobody had any experience with Magnamund. I first designed the Kai Lord class, then the Brotherhood Mage and the Knights of the White Mountain. We played the game for about a year-and-a-half, and it was actually quite successful. I intended to, once I finished developing it, submit it to the amazing Mr. Dever and say, "Here ya go, if you want to market it as a table-top RPG, put my name in the development credits." or something like that. If anyone is interested in the version I came up with and wants to hear more about it, respond below; however, now that there is a D20 version close to release, I encourage you to buy the Mongoose version. I'm sure it will be incredible based on what I've seen. ;D

I've never run a tabletop RPG before (I've played in several), so I think it would be a lot of fun introducing others to the exciting world of Magnamund. I'd be interested to know how your rules differed after the book is released though.

Has anyone else ever turned the Lone Wolf books into a tabletop stand-alone RPG? I've incorporated the Drakkarim and the Giaks into one of my 2E D&D games, but that's about the limit of it. Only one month to go....

I have changed my D&D game to include Summerlund and a few countries of Magnamund (with changed names, slightly, so it wouldn't be a TOTAL rip-off, Ahh, how I thought I was clever in doing that!).
My world has Giaks, Kraan, the Darklord menace, Kai Lords, the Brotherhood of the Crystal Star, the dwarves of Bor, etc. I'd say it's about half Magnamund and half my own invention, with a few new races to play (Saurians, Lizarrds, Sprites, Slith, etc.) It was the easiest way to introduce new players to the game who were very 'set' on playing one of the standard D&D classes or races, which is a shame because of the rich world Mr. Dever has been so kind to share with the rest of us!
Though I put in hundreds of hours developing my world (including a new spell system and combat), it seems that it will never really take off, as my desire to run my own complicated and detailed game loses out under the desire to actually play with people who already know the D&D rules. I hope that my group will embrace the new RPG as I present it to the table, as it's close enough to D&D that they will be able to go at it right away.
If not, it's time to start getting a new group together.

The Kai Lord preview is posted on the Mongoose web-site and it is very, very good. This looks like the game that Magnamund fans have been slavering for all these years!

Hey guys,
Its been a long time. All of us Lone Wolf fans have been scouring the net for Lone Wolf info for ages.
In fact...In the early days of the net i used to have a primative mailing list with a few guys on it...we tried to convert it to AD&D back in the day. I can't even remember who the guys were...i think Desert Lynx was one of them..
I can't wait for the RPG. Its sad, i search the net like every week looking for Lone Wolf stuff. Theres quite a few of us fans out there..we need to organize! Create a fan club.

I thought there was a LW/GS fan club... though I can't for the life of me remember where it was based out of... I thought it had some kind of web-presense...
Many moons ago, I did design a Magnamund role-playing game... well, Magnamund plus elements of other fantasy novels I have always loved. But it did include Kai Lords and Shianti Wizards, the Brotherhood of the Crystal Star, the Magi of Dessi, and so on. My mechanics were roughly what could be called a hodge-podge of what is now d20 system and the Stadard Palladium system. Sadly, the game never went much further than Beta Testing it with some of my friends, other die-hard LW fans here in native Alabama. I so wish it was one of those things that survived my last move, but alas, it is more likely now within the Dazarin than in my closet....

In case there is any Lone Wolf fan out here that hasn't seen it yet, Mongoose has put another preview up on their site. I have to say that I like what I see! It's definately got the Lone Wolf 'feel' to it. I think they have Joe Dever working closely with them. www.mongoosepublishing.com/detail.php?qsID=357&qsSeries=CoreI'm all a-tingle with slavering anticipation! Nerethel

COOL! Thanks for the update; I wouldn't have known if you hadn't said so, and am waiting to order it until the Darklands supplement comes out--little spare cash as my wife's birthday was this weekend--in June. Thanks again!
