I have been getting these project Aon newsletters for years, and have greatly appreciated the work that has gone into this--the Lone Wolf books were a staple of my growth into the fantasy genre during my youth. I've never checked the forums, nor communicated with anyone during this time. I just read the sporadic emails, and downloaded the latest editions to the LW collection.
This last monday, I check my email for the first time in a week and find out there is a LW D20 game coming out...I've been an avid D20 player for years, and this news was very exciting. None of my friends have ever known the beauty and grand adventure that is LW, and I've got several that are gamers. Some of them have heard about it from me--as I tried to explain to them this world...but I feel I failed greatly in the telling. Nothing compares to KNOWING the LW universe, reading the books and experiencing it. I tried several times to convert the Kai to D20 (or even 2nd ed back in the day), but it always came out wrong. The funny thing is, last saturday I ran a campaign where I just substituted a Paladin for a Kai Monk but had the party of two go through flight from the dark (or mostly)...it was a strange coincidence.
In any event, I've been very eagerly anticipating this book. My local gaming store owner finally got the book in (just for me, mind you) today, and I picked it up after work. I've only read a small portion of it so far, but I am highly impressed. This, I think, is by far my favorite D20 expansion. The world of Magnamund is one of my all-time favorite places, and the chance to return once again is an incredibly exciting prospect.
I wish to thank all of those who have worked to keep Magnamund from falling into the recesses of our collective memory. This is truly a gift that I had never expected to recieve, and I am eternally greatful for August Hahn's hard work. I'm sure there were many others involved, and of course, I cannot forget the genius of Joe Dever, which guided me through the harsh world of Middle School, when I was mistreated by my peers, misunderstood and lacking in self-worthiness. LW has been a part of my dreams for well over ten years, and has since been a source of infinite inspiration not just in my extensive gaming life, but in my personal life as well.
Again, thank you all, and truly I wish the blessings of Kai and Ishir on all of you. For Sommerlund, for the Kai and for Magnamund, fight on.
