Has anyone played through the newly published PDF of book 1 using Mongoose's game system for the books? It seems rather tedious to me and for now I'm going to stick with the Dever way of playing. If anyone gives it a big thumbs up though I may consider giving it a try.
[ This is a bit of a hazy area, but according to the principle that RPG stuff goes in Auxiliary, I am moving this thread. / Thomas ]

I played it yesterday. The skill checks are a nice addition, while, of course, the combat system is a bit complicated for a gamebook, but not too much. Some enemies are too strong, especially the old madman who, in my opinion, should be a 1st level commoner and, instead, his stats come close to my idea of a Drakkar sergeant.
Overall, I enjoyed it and appreciate the effort of the Mongoose staff. I hope that more books will follow, even though I think that Joe Dever's system remains the most appropriate method to play the gamebooks.
