UPDATE: PDF can now be found here homepage.ntlworld.com/outspaced/PDFs/Zipp_Dementia_-_Gourgaz_Fight.pdfHey all! The gourgaz fight is complete and ready to play! You rush towards the battle, but before you can reach the Prince, he is picked up in one of the Gourgaz’s clawed hands and tossed forward as if he weighs nothing. The Prince slams into some of his own men, and they collapse in a heap to one side of the stone bridge. Seeing this display of power, the other soldiers hesitate for a moment, and the beast strides forward, pushing its way past them. It strikes once or twice with its great ax as it moves by to weaken the soldiers, then Giak troops fall in behind it to finish the job. Desperate to take back the bridge, more fighters engage the massive Gourgaz, but they are either stopped by large groups of giaks, or felled by tremendous blows from the lizard. One man the beast simply grabs and tosses from the Alema bridge into the raging waters below.
The Gourgaz makes it across and roars its victory into the sky, the black ax held high above its reptilian head. Giak troops swarm the soldiers around it. You will be fighting this beast alone.
Do you have a weapon? If so, turn to 27 If not, turn to 32If you want to see more examples, check out this link, where I try a run through: towerofthesun.com/lwrpol/viewtopic.php?t=173If you'd like a PDF copy, private messenge me, or post here with your email address. All feedback is appreciated! Dark, if you need a specific file type so that your speech program can recognize it, just let me know what type that is and I'll make it. I think you've already said PDF won't work.

I'm also proud to announce that with a mixture of luck, some good choices, and a good choice of disciplines, I was able to beat the Gourgaz with a base CS of 12 and a current EP score of 20 (having lost 8 previously somewhere in the book). This would have been near impossible in the book's version of the battle.
This may solve the difficulty problem so many people had with the Magnakai quest, once I write the boss sections for those missions.

I didn't get many takers on trying this out over here, though the people who tried it on Tower of the Sun and responded to me said they really liked it.
Any more takers? It actually is a lot of fun, and you'll find it a nice addition to your next playthrough of Flight from the Dark. One of the nicest things about it is that it feels like it is part of the books, it doesn't break up the flow or Mr. Dever's style at all. And Outspaced, to whom I am forever grateful, even formatted it to look like the books.
So give it a shot! I promise you won't be dissapointed. It's a highly exciting fight which will require you to use your wits in addition to your basic stats to get past.

Still going with this, eh Zipp? Did it ever get published in Rising Sun? Well, it's been done for nearly a year, I think. I submitted it to Rising Sun, but that was around the time of the whole debacle with it switching hands, and the next issue STILL hasn't been published. It will be in that issue if it ever gets put out, though.

Four months later? That is a debacle! Perhaps, they should just have kept the original editors and left it at that.

Four months later? That is a debacle! Perhaps, they should just have kept the original editors and left it at that. then the gourgaz has probably only been done for six months. Man, my sense of time... feels like forever ago I submitted it to Rising Sun... though four months is a long time, huh?

Quite a long time, yes. Hell, SS could have done it by now, even with his busy schedules!

Well, I got mine (a while ago), and it's rather neat, I must admit. Kind of interesting to see one fight spread out over 45 paragraphs. There's even a use for the Vordak Gem in there. Mind if I run it through my usual translation effort ? After doing it for the Dark Before the Dawn, the Cordon of Holmgard, Destination Sommerlund and four chapters of the Dark One, I'm starting to translate Lone Wolf fan adventures in my sleep.

I really liked this. The writing fits in with Dever's own style, and the battle is now much more interesting. It's a bit like a more sophisticated version of the multi-part battles in Way of the Tiger. More of that kind of thing, says I.
If I could just point out an error in section 17 - no result is given if you roll a 7. I only noticed because that's what I got.

Well, I got mine (a while ago), and it's rather neat, I must admit. Kind of interesting to see one fight spread out over 45 paragraphs. There's even a use for the Vordak Gem in there. The vordak gem was a tough one to work in. I played around with a lot of ideas for that one, ranging from it exploding to it giving you control over the Gourgaz for a short period of time. I choose the one I did because it was simple to integrate and also raised some more questions about the nature of that mysterious gem. No, I'd appreciate it, in fact. And you could add in the addendum I'm about to make as well... ... because Doomy so aptly pointed this out! I can't believe both myself and Outspaced missed that. The section should read: If your total is 7 or higher, turn to 41 I really liked this. The writing fits in with Dever's own style, and the battle is now much more interesting. It's a bit like a more sophisticated version of the multi-part battles in Way of the Tiger. More of that kind of thing, says I. I'm really glad you think the writing fits in with his style. I worked hard to quench my own stylistic additions and instead stick to the kind of thing I thought Joe would write. There are certainly differences, but I, too, thought it came out pretty good in the end. Way of the Tiger was an inspiration, though what took me the longest to figure out was how to make it more random every time. Originally I was just going to have set damages on each page, like way of the Tiger does, but I wanted something which, like Lone Wolf's regular battles, could be different every time. That's when I thought up the idea of setting, not damage eachn page, but rather the combat modifier. That would keep in the random die roll element, while still giving the player bonuses and defecits based off their decisions. Glad you guys liked it! And thanks for catching that error!
