…and have been left out from Mongoose’s 1st ed. Greetings, Many of you know that a French edition of Lone Wolf RPG is due to be released soon. This edition won't be a simple translation, but an improvement over the existing material: our team of Kai Lord (er... proofreaders) has found some new information straight from the official material to add on the French book. So, why do I write here? Well, for first, because I am part of this team (surprise!). Second, because even if we found a lot of extra material, there may still be some more stuff to add; this is where we need you. Third, because the improvements we will make over the 1ed. will be sent to Mongoose for LW 2ed. This is the least we can do: Mongoose sent us an enhanced draft when we contacted them. So here is the deal: - I list what we already found and will integrate
- You tell us if you too have some extra informations to add
- We add your stuff (as long as it is canon)
- We will later send the material to Mongoose to integrate it in future product
There is two conditions for your additions to be approved: - As already stated, it must be based on official source. No invention here
- It must be very short (some lines) because we cannot afford extra pages.

Just about 60 views and no replies yet?  Folks! Dedicated Lone Wolf Fans! This is a rare opportunity to really have some impact on the official works, isn't it? I mean, who knows better than us what's canon and what's bullshit? I myself wasn't too happy with the choice of using the d20 system at all. - Well, it's the current edition of D&D which started it all, yes.. but nonetheless.. I don't see it still fits Magnamund! In Mongoos' Signs & Portents I read they plan to do an original system for the future LW RPG based on the gamebook rules! That's exactly what I'd like to see! (Of course it has to be expanded to a full-scale RPG system, done by some competent game designer(s), please! - Yet it's still OK to keep it simple!) On the current edition I have to admit that I yet have to read it in detail, 'cause it failed to intrigue me enough. Therefore I can only rely on second hand infos at this very moment. (Maybe I take this chance to read the stuff while my winter vacation.) adunaphel wrote in the "Helghast Adventure" thread, for instance: Yes, but there are many places where the RPG and the gamebooks don't see eye to eye, i.e. baknar are giant Walrus creatures, Cabalah are big skeletons, Burrowcrawlers are utterly gigantic behemoths capable of swallowing a man whole, Helghast are actually weaker than Vordaks, etc. ... Is this so? - There you are! Baknar - Walrus? rofl From TCoK, Sect.103: "... Within seconds, three large Baknar jump from the ice wall and land with a crash on the sledges. ..." Please imagine jumping Walrus-like creatures! - How graceful! lol Utterly gigantic behemoths capable of swallowing a man whole! ... with 7EP in the gamebook! Ahhh, ... yes! Last but not least, I heard that the Sages of Lyris got something like swashbuckling abilities. Swashbuckling old sages! - How ridiculous is that? !!! All right, just my two cents to get this starting.. |

Alright, well, there's tons of rules errors. Much of the book feels like they copied and pasted rules from D and D, and occasionally they reference things not in this RPG, like attacks of opportunity.
The characters are very unbalanced, mostly because psychic combat is too good. Kai Lords are far more powerful than the other classes, while the mage classes are pretty weak. A few more spells would be nice, and some of the Dessi Mage's abilities don't match their power in the gamebooks. For instance, in the Skull of Agarashi, Rimoah manages to maintain a personal force shield for like, a day, whereas in the RPG, you can maybe maintain one for a couple minutes before your magic is completely drained. Not that I think the shield should be a day long thing, but I do think its cost should be based on damage recieved, not time spent.

I hate to admit it, but I've changed my mind regarding balance issues in the RPG. I still think it could be argued that the psychic abilities are overly powerful, but I no longer feel the classes are out of balance with each other.
More spells would still be nice.
A more complete beastiary, maybe with tables that shows the combat skill of enemies as they level up.
A good index.
Fix the mix up of rules (like all the instances that refer to attacks of opportunity, which are not in this RPG)

de-lurking for a short message...
I have to concur with Zipp on one idea: psychic combat is way too powerful and, IMHO, as presented in the RPG it contradicts a bit the feeling we get in the books. that is, that wizards who were schooled in the Brotherhood or similar orders (take Vonotar, for instance) have no psychic power whatsoever. Well, either they should some or some spell should be created which could defend against psychic attacks... I do not think that every non-Elder human mage which appears in the books is carrying a psychic ring or amulet, and nevertheless many of them are immune at least to mindblast.
