One series I would recommend is the Earthsea series. There are four books in this fantasy series written by Ursula K. Le Guin.
1. A Wizard of Earthsea 2. The Tombs of Atuan 3. The Farthest Shore 4. Tehanu: The Last Book of Earthsea
Trust me on this one, they are an interesting read.

Fort some reason the Earthsea books are generally regarded as children's books, though I'd disagree. Just because there are no expletives, no overt sex and no gruesome deaths does not automatically make it children's fictions, any more than writing multiple 500+ page novels makes the story any good. By that token, the Belgariad must be children's literature, surely?
For anyone who might be a bit of an Earthsea fan, I can recommend the BBC radio dramatisation of A Wizard of Earthsea. Very good adaptation, and you can buy the cassette version rather cheaply (or, at least, I did).
(Psst, Ronan: I've never read the fourth one . . . what's it about and is it any good?)

The reason I mentioned this series is because the SciFi channel (I don't know if you get it in the UK) is putting on a mini-series entitled 'Earthsea'. Outspaced - Actually I cannot remember. I'm not sure if I finished the forth one. I just remember the first one being of Ged and his training and all that fun stuff. I remember a girl with a serious attitude problem in the second book. I should reread them.

I just remember the first one being of Ged and his training and all that fun stuff. I remember a girl with a serious attitude problem in the second book. Strange as it may seem coming from me, but I actually remember her as having good reasons for her attitude problem, though my memory is rather hazy. I must have read the first one a number of times, but the second and third I only read about once. Not that they weren't any good, just that the first one was more . . . iconic. Earthsea is actually a very interesting setting, though the weird, metaphysical aspect of the world's edge when Ged chases after the demon is still somewhat beyond me. Hey-ho.
