Hi Spartanis, welcome to Project Aon. We've been slowly working on the Combat Heroes books for some time, but the major problem is getting scans of the images. I scanned in Emerald enchanter myself, as well as editing all the resulting graphics, and although I own a copy of Scarlet Sorcerer, I'd rather not have to scan it all in myself! I've actually put a request for scans of Scarlet Sorcerer quite recently here. As far as making the images available, that's rather difficult. Although we at Project Aon are making the books freely available, they are still governed by the Project Aon End Euser License, which asserts the rights of the copyright holders of the original work. As far as the Combat Heroes books go, that's the text for Joe Dever, and the artwork for Peter Parr. (Note that our copy of the User License is slightly out of date as it doesn't mention anything about Peter Parr yet. In short, we can't just make the images available as we have to respect the owners of the copyright. However, if you are prepared to make these scripts you plan to write available as part of Project Aon, I think I could make the images for Emerald Enchanter available to you. This means that the scripts would have to be made available to Project Aon, and only distributed from the PA website. If you Contact Us with your proposal, someone with a better understanding of the legalities should reply within a week (as we seem to have a slow turnaround right now!) as to whether it would be possible or not. Of course, this doesn't help with Scarlet Sorcerer, but then, we are looking for scans of that book too! Hope it helps, and that it hasn't been to overbearing or legal-centric. :-\ Edit: Darn tags!

Hey Outspaced,
Thank you for your warm welcome!!
I have read and totally understood the concept of copyrights you have mentioned.
Originally, I want to create my own set of images and text by studying the books itself (to see how the author "mapped" the pages together) However, due to your politeness (a rare find in many forums!! :/) I wouldnt mind creating the original book into the script for Project Aon.
Allow me to create the proposal here:
Proposal: To create a game of Emerald Enchanter and Scarlet Sorcerer into mIRC Script or to create a self created game using the same concept into mIRC Script, where a user may (if found a connected player) play against the other online.
GUI look: The GUI look and feel would be similar to the books, except modified to suit the screen where as it would be pleasant to the user's eyes. Keyboard is not neccessary for use as input method. Using mouse input to select and click which options the user wishes to use, and the viewscreen (image) would change to suit. At first, it would be a basic GUI, but later versions the GUI will be improvised to make it look nice and smooth
Using Images: There are two ways i could do this, One is to have those sets of images on the user's harddrive. But. however, as per copyright laws, for the original game choice (ie: Emerald Enchanter and Scarlet Sorcer) the images would therefore be stored here at Aon's Website for retrieval. And later deleted permantly once the image is no longer needed (when players finished the game.
As for my own created images, Those will come bundled with the packages.
Conclusion: Either way my project chooses, because of the future help i may recieve from you, and your fellow members to acheive this goal, the SPLASH, MENU and ABOUT Dialogs will not only have my logo, but also Joe Dever's, Artist Name and of course.. Project Aon's logo... along with many thanks to various names that contributes.
I hope this is sufficient. If you need to know more about this project idea of mine, please contact me by either replying to this post, or direct email to me: spartanis74@hotmail.com
Regards Spartanis
ps: to the reader: do not email me if anything you going to send to me is not related to this programming project of mine. If i have receieved any spam, junk or any other "crappo" i will report to the admin .. somehow

Oh btw, Im currently creating another game project as we speak. The Proposed Game will not be coded until the current project is completed. (the current project is a game idea of mine that dates back to the days of my childhood boredom, it is similar to War Of Conquest online, except more interesting and in depth than just point and click! :/) The Current Project is at %10 complete (as i have started this 2 days ago )

Okey-dokey, I've forwarded your proposal on to the Project Coordinator, and we shall await his decree. Just a point that has occurred to me: would the illustrations need the section and turn-to numbers in the boxes? For the artwork I have, I removed all of this text and replaced it as text behind the illustration, so there is no text on the illustrations at all. Would this be a problem?

Combat heroes reminds me somewhat of Lost World Combat Books.

I have to say, this is an awesome idea. It makes me wish there was at least one antagonistic version of LW, so we could lob it up for this project and bring in more Lone Wolf fans.
By the by, spartanis--have you joined Tower of the Sun? I know I already sent you a PM, but seriously, it really is all that and a bag of Funyuns.

To Outspaced: Thank you. I shall wait for the oh wise ones decisions As for the textless images. Yes it would be a problem, since i dont know which image is connected to which regarding if user turn to that page. Unless the Image itself have a "page" number, and you can provide a "map" of page numbers that connected to other page numbers by user's choice. Daunting task to create such as this (pmsl) To Dusk Fox: Yeah I thought its a great idea. And by doing this, I do hope in return for support, to create this site "the" Joe Dever site to go to (the ore hits, the more likely pple will pay to place their adverts in, the more money these guys make prolly wont happen but hey?) Regarding Tower of the Sun, yes i have received your message, and no i havent joined it yet. I promise you i will look into it in depth when i have an hour to spare Cheers Sparty

Hmm. OK, providing we get the go-ahead (and I can't actually see a problem), I'll have a look at re-adding the numbers to copies of the images. I have a font that approximates the original numerals quite well.
I'm a bit tied up with other graphics-editing stuff right now (hopefully it'll be done by today), so it won't be until the weekend that I can look at this.
