Well, you might had seen it in the news: hurricane Katrina hit the coasts of the USA yesterday. There might not be as many deaths than the tsunamis in Asia, but the material damages are very important. A lot of houses were destroyed and now many people are homeless, living in shelters. I would like to call people to give money, even if it is just 5$, to your local Red Cross organisation so that they can help the victims. Also, Tower of the Sun is selling Hurrican Relief T-shirts where all the profits will go to the American Red Cross.
I honestly think that this online community is more than just a goup of geeks discussing of a fantasy world: we can stand together and help each other when a disaster strikes in our real life. At least one member of this forum, namely KaiLord, lives in the zone where the hurricane hit and we are currently looking for informations on his whereabouts. If you know of any ways to contact him (excluding the email), PM me.

When I saw damn you Katrina, I thought maybe your girlfriend had left you. ;D Katrina is not my girlfriend, but she paid us a visit today, with strong winds and heavy rain. The roof of the grocery store where I'm currently working was leaking right over my department, so I was really glad when she finally decided to leave. ;D

Yeah that remind me a joke about that.
"What is the similarity between a women and an hurricane. The two when they come are wet and when they are leaving, they go with the car and the house.
Ok maybe some will say it's not funny at all for what have happen on south part of the USA and it's not my goal to laugh at it. So everyone is warn.

Ok, Kai Lord is alright, but now he is facing the chaos in the region. He doesn't have water, electricity or gas to get out of town. People at TotS are trying to find a way to help him, but it is hard since the member living closer to him can't leave his state.

But the good news is that he and his family are alive. And as a further update he called one of the senior members of Tower of the Sun today: he has water and some gas. So though he is in a spot of a bother he'll pull through.

Yesterday, a few dozen of the hurricane evacuees were brought to our clinic for vaccinations; I understand that hospitals and clinics all over the St. Louis Metro are doing the same. ------------------------------------------------ Here's the sites I'm watching right now. They're often political, so be warned, but they have a lot of info. Stories, blogs, and contact info www.truthout.org/mayday.shtmlMoveOn is trying to match up housing offers to evacuees; 194,000 beds offered, last I checked. www.hurricanehousing.org/?id=5959-5141376-8gqmw.LzStdy6nDk0UjgfAPhotos of children separated from their parents by Hurricane Katrina have been posted on a Web site by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in an attempt to reunite families. www.missingkids.com/--------------------------------------- The American Red Cross, with support of the worldwide Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, is launching a Web site to help assist family members who are seeking news about loved ones living in the path of Hurricane Katrina. Visit the "Family Links Registry" via RedCross.org to register yourself, a missing relative or view the existing list of registrants. Evacuees wishing to inform loved ones of their location can register their name by clicking on "Family Links Registry" on RedCross.org. Concerned loved ones can register the names of their loved ones and view the list of those already posted. Due to the extent of the damage and the number of people displaced, concerned friends and family members are encouraged to visit the site daily to consult the list, as it will be updated continuously. A toll-free hotline is being established for those who do not have internet access. www.familylinks.icrc.org/katrina

Just checked back here after having been away for a while. Bad stuff, indeed - this is the kinda damage climate change can cause. Glad everyone is ok. I heard the Florida Keys have been placed on hurricane alert, which is not good, cuz my aunt lives down there and we haven't been able to contact her yet. Hopefully she'll get out of there before anything happens though.
