See Section 300 of Dawn of the Dragons. It asks if you have the Sommerswerd. Your weapons have already been taken by the guards. So it's obvious that you're not supposed to delete the sword if you lose your weapons. Yes but it still doesn't make sense that the guards would take away all your weapons and just decide to let you keep the Sommerswerd. It just doesn't flow.

That is weird. I mean, I know for most practical purposes a weapon-like special item (SS, H, DoV, MS, etc.) is still a weapon. I certainly wouldn't leave a prisoner with a weapon on them simply because it had a crackling blue flame or golden glow to it: I'd want it for myself instead! Your ideas for the rules sound okay for dual-wielding, but even though I wouldn't do it, I would probably rule it this way: When wielding two weapons, you only receive 1/2 of the normal bonus with the second hand, rounded up. So a Magnakai would have the same bonus with a second weapon as with the shield as long as they had WM for that weapon. A weapon's natural bonus would add into the equation, so someone wielding the Bronin Warhammer in book 11 would get a +3 bonus: +4 for WM, +1 for the weapon, divided by two and rounded up. Because of their distinctly different nature, I don't think Helshezag and the Dagger of Vashna could be wielded at the same time as the Sommerswerd, since the SS is opposed to these as far as natural good vs. evil alignment. BTW, upon reaching the rank of Sun Knight (GM book 15), Grand Masters can wield two-handed weapons effectively with one hand, so for your dual-weapon rules I wouldn't consider using two to be much of a stretch, but it would take up a lot of room. Just my thoughts, since you asked!

Wow, you guys make me feel like a genuine munchkin.
I use a dual-weapon system that is very, very loose.
I take a +4 CS bonus in the Kai books if I have two of the correct weapon. This one doesn't make a lot of difference, to be honest, as I don't allow the use of a Shield if I'm using two weapons. To be honest, I rarely take Weaponskill in the Kai books anyway.
I take the +6 CS bonus for two weapons I have Weaponmastery in when I play the Magnakai books. No Shield again, of course, and no using two double-handed weapons. I do allow dual-wielding with the Sommerswerd, and I often have possibly unrealistic combinations by wielding the Sommerswerd and the Dagger of Vashna simultaneously. Wielding the Sommerswerd and the Bronin Warhammer together is a nice combo as well, but I like to go for the Bow.
I've yet to play the Grand Master series, so the possibility of me using the Sommerswerd and Helshezag at the same time hasn't come up...

Out of curiousity, how many folks actually use dual weapon rules while going through the gamebooks? Not I, despite being a cheating bastard. That's just going a little too far, in my book. However, after Book 12, you can't use the Chainmail Waistcoat, the Padded Leather Waistcoat or the Bronin Vest in the GM series anyway. Not that this stops born cheaters like myself from doing so anyway.

My only major cheat is that I do carry over the Bronin Vest to the GM series... Come on, I can understand no shields and regular armor, as they could be against the narrative of a sleek sneaky nimble kai lord. But you can keep the kagonite chainmail and Bronin is far more "wearable" (a kind of Magnamund Mithril), so I find the thing quite odd... Maybe JD just made a selection of items so the player had room for new stuff (especially "key" items) and picked one of two possible armor items, perhaps to give something to players who don't have Curing in the Magnakai books. But story-wise is quite arbitrary to choose Kagonite over Bronin... does not the Grand Master in book 26 get a nice suit of dwarven Bronin?

While I agree with you on the arbitrary nature of this, I think that the description of the two kind of explains why... bronin vest (if I recal) is thick and heavy while the kagonite chainmail is very fine and light, keeping with the "sleek sneaky nimble kai lord"
just a thought, although I maintain that you should be able to carry anything over
