Why is it that upon Lone Wolf's capture in Duadon in DOTD (Book #18), all his goods & things are confiscated save his Special Items eg. Sommerswerd? Aren't they the FIRST things they would take so as to render Lone Wolf as helpless and vulnerable as possible??? That just doesn't make sense, except that Lone Wolf will be pretty much screwed without the Sommerswerd!

I guess Vassagonian or Anarian jailers are a tad smarter.

Not really.
Maybe it's just standard procedure to only take normal items just in case any unusual Special Items might be magically booby trapped or cursed and therefore dangerous: "Don't touch that glowing sword! Sefrou's cousin lost half his hand when disarming a Kai in Kazan Oud!"
or
"Hey, look at this crystal device thing, ooh this part comes out - wonder what happens if I invert it and place it back inside...?"
Higher level officers might want to 'disarm' any valuable items and retain them for themselves when they interrogate too.
Besides, if you are carrying Weapons and Backpack items it implies that you do actually need them so confiscating them is a reasonable action - reducing your threat.
I don't know. It is just a game and of course Joe didn't plan for you to get it back so that is why whereas if it was a RPG the DM might take everything and give you the chance to find it.

That's interesting because in the version I used to read, they confiscated everything and LW would then get his stuff back from Lutha's second in command. He explains that he thinks Lutha will drive the country to its doom. He is then murdered by Lutha (probably on his way to pay a visit to LW) who overheard the conversation.

That's the French version. Seems the translator thought this plot hole was simply too egregious to let stand. ^_^

I just assumed that the first guy who tried to take the sword from him lost most of his fingers and no one else had the guts to try and take it from him...

Is there some footnote or anything? Thanks

By the addition of the following sentence to Sections 236, 290, and 335:

For my part, I have Lone Wolf also lose any "normal" Special Items like the Quiver or Silver Seal. However, anything magical (Sommerswerd, Kagonite, Silver Bow, etc) he keeps because neither the Cenars nor the Eldornians wants to risk screwing with it.
Interestingly, I usually have LW go through Duadon even though it's quite costly. While there are surface reasons (it's safer because no one would expect it) to do it, I figure that in the back of his mind, LW is kind of hoping that fate with somehow put Lutha in his path so he can kill the hell out of him for the crap he's been pulling.

Perhaps they are just stealing what they think they can get away with and don't want their boss noticing - those sommerswerds are notoriously difficult to fence!
