The Jewelled mace has three uses: It can be used to get a +5 bonus against the creature Haakon summons up in 5 if you don't have the Sommerswerd, it can be traded for the Grey Crystal Ring in book 8, and it can be used in 14 in some way, I think if you fight the Helegast after using Telegnosis, and if you don't have the Sommerswerd, Dagger of Vashna, or Helshezag, it can be used to kill the Helegast
There is a way to skip the Helegast in 8.
Hint: Take the North Road, not the ferry
Also, check my thread for what I consiter a better mix of Disiplines for a weak character. (Sorry Sol)

The basic thing about the dagger in book nine is that you can throw it at a certain enemy to reduce that enemy's efficiency in combat.
You gain the advantage with the dagger over using the Sommerswerd.

To make my question clear: My "house-roule" would allow the use of certain items against a certain Zhakan, even if I DO have the SW. I'm interested in a Mind thread over this matter. Is there already a thread about it out there? - I'm not stubled across it yet.. It would save me some time searching for it if fellow wolfs could give me the name/link. (And it would preserve me from doing a second thread about same matter - shame!)

Just to let everybody know, I'm still working on calculating the exact numbers for Book 3. I still need to figure out the right combination of disciplines to give you the best chances -- right now I'm looking at some combination of: Hunting Animal Kinship Mindblast Weaponskill Healing Mind over Matter Sixth Sense (only if you also have Mind over Matter) I probably won't be able to update over the next couple weeks, so happy holidays!

... As for saving Paido, here are some hints: You are right on first of all... Curing will definitely help you. Failing that, if you have some Laumspur, you might also be able to help him. I know you lost your backpack in Book 7, but I think you are allowed to choose a new potion when you start Book 8.... Thanks again Sol, but the problem with the Laumspur is that if I lost my backpack: Where to put it? - Till now I did not managed to find a new one between book 7 and book 9. Maybe there is a way of getting one in the course of book 8, but before finding Laumspur and before the said encounter???

I know it's out there. I'll give it a look. Did you try the search feature, by the way? That would probably be more helpful than myself.

LongHairy,
finding the Laumspur in Book 8 is EASY. Just choose it at the start of the book at the same time that you are awarded your gold, etc from the Elder Magi.
Now, it IS allowed to leave Backpack items at the Kai monostary in safe keeping... but can this be done in Book 7, that's the question. I think book 8 is the first one that allows you to stow Special Items in the monostary, for example. Even still, the monostary does exist at the start of Book 7, does it not?
Perhaps another member can clarify this point.

We discussed this in an earlier post. It's where my qoute is from, actually.
I always assumed that Lone Wolf, except when he is in the Daziarn planes, had some place to leave his [nuts] (it did it again, didn't it?). For instance, the king would probably gladly hold it until the monastery is rebuilt. And while he's in the lands of the Dessi, I'm sure lord Rimoah could keep it around.

Zipp,
This sounds like a very reasonable rules-variant, even if it is not Official-Official. LongHairy, I suppose it will be up to you! When playing and these sorts of questions come up, I usually try to DM for myself like Zipp does and come up with a Reasonable Answer.
I mean, it is REALLY BAD that you lose all your potions at the end of 7 with no way to stop it. You know, that might be why I never seemed to have that +4 Alether in Book 11. I could care less about losing the Laumsphur (it is so rare that I need it) but that Alether is pure gold.
Actually, here is a question: Book 8 asks you in one section if you have any Oede Herb, yet I think it is impossible to get it in Book 8 (true?). If I am right, Joe MUST have meant for you to be able to stow items, right? The only other way would be to SKIP Book 7 and go straight to 8. In other words, you would lose out on one Magnakai Discipline, and I doubt Joe was thinking that.
Ideas about the "Oede-Herb proof"?

Good question! Unless Oede is a Special Item, then you are suppose to loose it in book 7 and so, the Kai Lord is doomed in book 8 if he needs to take some. Does anyone knows if Oede is a Special Item?

Black Cat, Secondly, Oede is a backpack item and here is the proof: SPOILERS www.projectaon.org/xhtml/lw/05sots/sect2.htmInteresting - is Oede pronounced like the word "Ode" or like the word "Weed?" Lone Wolf - "Do you know where I can get some weed?" Herb-warden, shocked!!! Lone Wolf - "I mean Oede."

Yes it does. You start book 6 from your monastery and you find this in "The Story So Far" section:
If you were able to train there, I would have to assume you could keep stuff there...unless of course a horde of peasants breaks in as soon as you leave to rob the place.
If you are strictly interpreting the rules, I guess the answer would be no but from a practical standpoint, the monastery is there so you would think that even in a semi-rebuilt state, there would be at least a room to store some stuff in.
As for how it would get there between 7 and 8, I guess you could entrust them to Lord Ardan and he would order someone to take them back to your monastery for you and deposit them there.
This doesn't work for 10-11 of course but since you do end Book 7 among friends, it is conceivable that others would help you out. You did defeat Lord Zahda so the least they could do is either hold onto some items for you or have them sent back to your monastery.
