You will be most welcome too!
Apologies for the delay been celebrating Christmas with the family, the Play by Post game is on pause over Christmas but about to get back into it.
I have started the adventure but I'm always looking for new players to join. There are currently two main Player Characters - Aden; a Brother of the Crystal Star who has so far managed to prevent Wizard Acraban crashing a balloon into Raven's Eerie and Storm Ghost; a Kai whose Sixth Sense is warning him that a stranger they rescued from wild dogs in The Wildlands is not as trustworthy as he makes out. It is MS5077 and the party are to escort the monthly gold shipment from Ruanon to Holmgard, to date they have only just entered The Wildlands on the way to Ruanon so the adventure is really only just beginning. It takes place at the same time as Book 16 The Legacy of Vashna...
It is play by post but you do not have to write much - just something like an option in a Gamebook would be sufficient - "I'd like to examine the tapestries", "attack the nearest Giak", "take the left tunnel", etc. If you want to write more (to flesh out your character, etc.) that's great but don't feel you have to - language, grammar, etc. is not an issue the emphasis is on fun! If English is not your first language/a language you are very confident in please don't feel you cannot join in.
Most important - YOU DO NOT NEED TO OWN/POSSESS ANY RULES. I've got all the rules needed to play and can help you in every aspect of the game. You won't be expected to know much about the books either - obviously the more you know the greater the satisfaction/payoff when certain things occur/come into play but knowledge or rules or background/history are not at all essential All you need is a willingness to post your characters actions every so often.
That said, the rules we are using are the Lone Wolf Multiplayer Rules which are practically identical to the Lone Wolf Gamebooks anyway so if you have played at least one Lone Wolf Gamebook you will have a good idea of what is involved. Available classes, roughly in order of suitability are:
Kai Lord
Brother of the Crystal Star
Border Ranger of the North
Sommlending Knight of the Realm
Knight of the White Mountain
Vakeros Warrior Mage
Magician of Dessi
Herbwarden of Bautar
Dwarven Gunner of Bor
Kloon Sage of Chaman
Telchoi Warrrior
Buccaneer of Shadaki
Ice Barbarian of Kalte
You can play any class though, we just have to come up with a good reason why you would want to be in the party, sure it wouldn't be too hard. I don't mind what class anyone would wish to be - I would be perfectly happy to have half a dozen Herbwardens; it wouldn't matter what the others are, don't feel you can't play a class because someone else is that too.
I also use my own 'house rules' which I have developed over the years (decades) of playing the gamebooks - things like new equipment, etc. The main differences are Honour Points - which are inversely proportional to Combat Skill, Endurance Points and Willpower (for spellcasters): Honour can be spent to influence the Random Numbers you pick, gain non-class abilities, acquire powerful equipment and even cheat death! Honour is awarded before the 1st and after each successful adventure or when you donate equipment. I suppose the other main difference is the Weapon damage system, Swords & Maces and all Thrown/Missile Weapons (e.g. Bow) all handle as normal but the others do either more or less damage than you are used to - why would anyone buy a more expensive Broadsword if it does the same damage as a Dagger? To counter this I have Dual Wield (for 1 handed weapons) and Keep at Bay (for 2 handed Weapons) bonuses. It's all in the files in the Facebook Group, if it sounds complicated don't worry - I'll handle all of it anyway, it's just to make it a bit more realistic. There are Action Charts there too you can photocopy and like I said lots of new equipment - as far as I can tell every item in the Gamebooks is represented or grouped into one of the six catagories:
Rule FAKER - very cheap/disposable items, e.g. Meal, Torch, Rusty Sword -1CS.
Rule TAKER - standard Backpack Items & Weapons, e.g. Potion of Laumspur +4EP, Axe, Quiver & 6 Arrows.
Rule WAKER - more exotic items, e.g. Shield +2CS, Rendalim's Elixir +6EP, Kai Sleep Crystal.
Rule SHAKER - mildly enchanted or fine items, e.g. Magnakai Sword +1CS (non-magic), Firesphere, Talisman of Defiance +2CS.
Rule BREAKER - powerful magic items, e.g. Oede (+10EP Cures all Diseases/Poisons too), Silver Bracers +2CS +1EP, Magic Spear (magic Weapon).
Rule MAKER - artefacts and divine items, e.g. Shamath's Potion (Restore Full EP {1 Dos.} or Half EP {2Dos.}), Ang'Sei "Armour of Life" +2CS '0' Special Item Spaces, Kai Weapon.
Rule FAKER items only cost 1 Honour Point and are available to anyone but Rule MAKER Items cost 60 Honour Points - and require 300 All-time Honour (total Honour earned whether spent or not).
Getting a little carried away. Come over to the site and have a look around, that invite is for any of you. You can read the adventure and see how it progresses - you don't have to be involved.
I am Richard Penwarden, usually have a profile pic of me in my Lone Wolf Tee-shirt and a pic badge with the iconic Lone Wolf face used by Beaver Books, etc. in the corner:
