Hey there. I think there's a mistake in both the printed and Project Aon versions of FftD. In section 21, where you roll to see if you and/or your horse can escape the bog:
the second paragraph should have you turn to 312 (rather than 189).
Section 312 is the route in which your horse has died, as indicated by the following section, section 299 ("You soon realize that you are walking deeper into a wooded marsh."). This route eventually forces you to find a cabin by the side of the road, where you have to either entice a horse with Animal Kinship or chase him for a few hours. In either case, you get a horse, which would be totally unnecessary if you were still riding a horse.
Section 189 is the route in which your horse has lived, as indicated in the following section ("You spur your horse to a gallop and race down the long straight path").
So, since your horse dies in the second paragraph, you should turn to the dead horse page (312), not the live horse page (189).
You have ridden about two miles into the tangle of trees when the ground becomes very marshy.
the second paragraph should have you turn to 312 (rather than 189).
- In the first paragraph, you and your horse both live, turn to 189.
- In the second paragraph, your horse dies ("Your horse gives one last despairing scream as its muzzle disappears into the bubbling mud"), and if you roll above 7, you survive ("you drag yourself onto firm ground"), turn to 189.
- In the third paragraph ("this is your last chance!"), your horse is already dead, turn to 312.
Section 312 is the route in which your horse has died, as indicated by the following section, section 299 ("You soon realize that you are walking deeper into a wooded marsh.").
