This is a REALLY n00b question. I read on the "Challenges" thread that it's good to have the Dagger of Vashna around. I'm about to start The Cauldron of Fear and I've yet to use it. Does it add some sort of bonus that I'm not aware of or does it come in later?

Actually, CoF is one of the few books where the Dagger does give a perceptable advantange. Only if you don't have the [Gameplay spoliers] Sommerswerd, though.

Wish it'd give me one, anyway. I'm stuck at the part where you fight Zakhan Kimah. The combat ratio is something like -12.

That's where it can help you out if you don't have the above mentioned item.

There are quite a few threads around about tips for getting through book 9. Use the search icon near the top of the screen to look for posts about Zakhan Kimah if you want tips, but be warned: there are a lot of spoilers!

Thanks. D'oh! Wish I had known about those tips ahead of time.
(I just kind of said that I had kind of killed him just to be done with it. I know. I'm a horrible human being.)

Cheral,
Zakahn had it coming! With your newfound knowledge, next time you'll serve it up but hard.

Neh, I wouldn't worry about it. I remember the first time I went through the Cauldron of Fear and after the tenth time dying I said 'whatever' and just went on with the story.

I did something similar, but skipped the Sommerswerd section and went for the Dagger of Vashna after he killed me. I was wondering what the other path would lead to, so I checked it out and threw that dagger right at him!
