Hi all
One of the things that annoys me about the Kai series is by the time you get to Shadows on the Sand, you have all but one of the disciplines, making a lot of the checks feel perfunctory. This is even worse in the Magnakai series where the need to complete Lore Circles limits variety further - I'm sure I'm not the only one who would quite like to play Kingdoms of Terror with Nexus, Animal Control and Pathmanship?
So I was thinking of employing the following house rules:
The Kai Series: You don't learn a new discipline after each book - you're stuck with your Initial 5. Your Kai rank still increases as if you were learning new disciplines though.
Between Kai and Magnakai, it can be assumed you've taken the time to perfect the other disciplines and can carry over the bonuses of all ten to Book 6.
The Magnakai Series: You start with 3 Disciplines and learn another after Book 6, and a 5th after Book 7. Your Magnakai rank still increases as if you were learning new disciplines though. Lore circles still exist but they don't give you stat bonuses. Instead for each book you beat, you get an additional 1CS and 2E. This will make you stats-wise slightly more powerful than a character who has completed 3/4 lore circles by Book 12 (You will be +6CS +12E compared to +4CS +7E but this makes up for having fewer Disciplines and Lore Circles).
Between Magnakai and Grand Master, you would then be assumed to have taken the time to learn the other Disciplines.
I'm less knowledgeable about Grand Master so not sure how well such rules would work there.
Has anyone tried anything similar to this? Did it work well?
