Book 16: who does the assassin work for ?

Hello does anyone know who the assassin is working for, that kills the character named smudd, in book 16 ?
When giving chase every path in the book always leads to the assassins escape. Can one simply assume the assassin was working for the brotherhood of vashna ?

That is probably a safe assumption yes. See for instance Section 55.

I had asked myself the same question before, but while editing book 16 I figured out the answer using the same section that Thomas just cited. Of course, unless you manage to follow the assassin all the way to the final rooftop, you'll never find that out!

Haha..I didn't manage to hunt the assasin because of Lone Wolf dumb luck...falling, knock unconsious, and getting up to see backpack items and money stolen!
