Something that is bugging me while going through LW4 again:
1. Has it ever been explained how and where Barraka managed to acquire the Dagger of Vashna we see him wielding in LW4?
2. Is the Dagger of Vashna meant to be a literal "this is the dagger that Vashna literally used to wield at some point", or is it more a case of "this dagger was infused with some powers of Vashna, just like the Sommerswerd was infused with the powers of Kai without having being wielded by Kai himself"...?

1) Not to my knowledge, though it can easily be explained as the cult of Vashna taking it from the battlefield or scouring the maakengorge for it I guess.
2) The dagger is his secondary weapon (Just like LW Vashna is an axe lover, and his primary weapon is Gajikago, a massive axe). Think this comes up in one of the mongoose sourcebooks but my memory is a bit rusty. In the novels Vashna talks about it as his dagger when communing with Barraka (edit, just checked, he also says he lost in on the battlefield).

The episode of the podcast about book 4 shed some light:
-It's a piece of Vashna's spirit bound to the weapon. -It's forged for human hands because it's meant to be used by cultists to perform the ritual that brings him back. But it's fairly large and was forged for him (and he could use it). -Barraka was raised as the Doomslayer. It's not exactly explained in the episode, but my guess is that the Dagger was already in possession of the Acolytes of Vashna in preparation for his resurrection when the Doomslayer would be ready to fulfill his role.

So it was forged for Vashna while he was alive, for the purpose of resurrecting him? (cue big Messiah moment)

So it was forged for Vashna while he was alive, for the purpose of resurrecting him? (cue big Messiah moment) I'm not sure that it was made because they knew he was going to be killed or if it was just a safety measure in case his body was destroyed. I'm checking the transcription of the podcast on Spotify (which is far from being perfect, especially with specific words belonging to Magnamund) but I don't seem to find an explanation about that. Maybe we could ask for the episode on book 16?

So it was forged for Vashna while he was alive, for the purpose of resurrecting him? (cue big Messiah moment) It's possible. In the Darklands supplement it says there was a Liganim prophecy presented to Vashna shortly before his final battle that foresaw both his death and the eventual fall of the darklords. It could be that he ordered the dagger to be forged at that time. From the podcast Black Cat mentions it sounds like we may find out more in the last books.

If the Dagger does contain part of Vashna's soul, it would make sense that he's deliberately taken steps to ensure he can be resurrected if ever killed.
It's a classic "Liche creating a Phylactory" type move - or Voldermort making his Horcruxes if you prefer.
And yes, if he was aware of any prophecy telling of his defeat, he's extra likely to have taken this step.
