Hello... in my last re-run of the whole LW I just finished The Jungle of horrors. I found something interesting... When you deal with that Necromancer and get the scroll in 312, I took advantage of my Magnamund Companion, which I never enjoyed as a kid, and proceeded to translate it. The first 3 lines would run like: "Go to Tharro, Temple of the Sword. Begin plan for Dark-Lord DOGEZ" Given that there is only an English-Giak dictionary, it was quite time-consuming, but it seems there's no word as DOGEZ! Am i just short-sighted? Did Dever just leave it vague (using a word not in the MC) because the language itself and the first lines (where the location is pointed) are enough of a clue?

thanks for the link... I just wonder, what's the source for that expanded lexikon? LW newsletter? direct communing with Joe Dever? painstaking speculation?

Sorry to hijack this thread, but did it... bother anyone else that after the "blessing" spoken over the food at the temple of the swords that was so obviously in Giak do you think an option to slap Paidos food away from him and attack the "blesser" might have been sensible?

Surprise, Andyr! 'DOGEZ' isn't actually in the Magnamund Companion, it actually appears in Newsletter 23, which is why you're having so many difficulties finding it!

Well, if I remember it correctly, the monks in the temple of swords are genuine to give them meal, save their master/arch-monk, whatever who's actually a Helghast that takes human form. May be that is why LW has no doubt on the food and let Paido has it. But he himself prefer to eat from the backpack, which is not that tasty compared to the meal offered.
LW: Eh Paido, we have meals from our backpack.. Paido: Nah...There's no way I'm gonna eat that almost-rot-meat. Nyum..nyum... (then Paido continues eating his meal vigorously like a hungry refugee) ;D

Yes, I remember the other monks were genuine, but I also remember the so called prayer the Helghast said over the meal before they ate... it was clearly in giak and in my very poor understanding of giak meant something like "die in pain" or words to that effect. No mention was made that it was giak but if I could recognise it the surely Lone Wolf would have and surely if he suspected something was wrong he would have prevented his companion from eating this meal...

What most surprises me is that after all the hints you can collect along the way giving you quite clear warnings (the Necromancer scroll, but also some hints in English, like some fortuneteller IIRC), when you are in Tharro the text does not give you any option to have 2nd thoughts about lodging at the Temple... OK, the episode is quite cool and the adventure, a bit linear, requires you to find out about the Darklord encroachment in the Freelands, and so, but it is slightly inconsequent. A goo design thing would have been to get an encounter which almost forces you into the Temple, like getting a poor orphan kid to the monks... the Kai always fall into that one! After spending a long time decyphering the scroll I felt like, OK, I am stepping right into the bad guys. And because I am LONE Wolf, I don't give Paido a hint...

And because I am LONE Wolf, I don't give Paido a hint... That may very well be the best answer I have ever read.
