I asked this question on Kaiwisdom a few days ago and got no response, so...I'll ask here...
Just a question about the lorestones...
The art seems inconsistent with the descriptions. In book 6, there are pictures of it atop a sceptre, and it seems to be a perfectly round sphere...
In book 7, it seems to be faceted, book 8 shows it as a "hockey puck" shaped disc, book 11 shows two of them as multifaceted globes, but all the descriptions seem to indicate they all look the same and are round spheres.
Any thoughts on this?

I think the "hockey puck" is actually the crystal dais referenced in book 8, section 100.
The Lorestone of Varetta was mounted on a sceptre, but the book doesn't really say how. It may be encased in glass, or maybe Dever and Chalk hadn't decided exactly what it would look like.

I always assumed that all lorestones are different and that each one has its own shape. Simply.

I always assumed that all lorestones are different and that each one has its own shape. Simply. Then, how could you explain that the three Lorestones that we see hanging over the Shadow Gate in book 10 are perfectly similar? The Lorestones were always describe as perfectly round spheres of glass. The only time I had a doubt about it is when I saw the "hockey puck" in book 8. But now, just like Reginald said, I think it is a view from the top of the room where LW gets the third Lorestone, just like in the old game of Legend of Zelda on the NES we used to see Link from the top. Ah, so many memories...the good Overworld theme...the fights against Ganon...That's it, I'll go get my NES and play it all night long!

Exactly. It seems that the Brian Williams illustrations are consistent and the Gary Chalk ones are not. The two that the Scarlet Warrior is grasping for in book 11 are identical.
I always imagined them like spheres of glass personally, perfectly round....

The three suspended ones in 10 and the ones on the ground in 11 are the ones that stick in my head. That's what I always think of the Lorestones looking like. I may have more to offer later, but don't want to spoil the ending of Lorestone of Varetta by reading it before I finish.

You should also notice that in Book 11, the picture of the Scarlet Warrior picking up the Lorestones makes them look the size of golf balls. However, in the same book the picture of Vontar the Traitor shown carrying 1 Lorestone where that Lorestone (supposedly the same one the Scarlet Warrior brought to him) is the size of a volleyball. What's that about?

We know Vonotar is a stumpy little git, hunchbacked and wizened. Perhaps the Scarlet Warrior is a rather large dude, a la the Yoacar guards - we are told he is 'magnificent' which might imply tall
I think this whole debate is a little contrived. There doesn't seem to be any ranking of the Lorestones so they are probably all the same size. The illustrations by Brian Williams suggest they all have crystalline facets on them. The Gary Chalk pictures are inconsistent and should be discounted.
I await the inevitable contradiction ;D

Well, except the picture in book 8 of what is or isn't a Lorestone (we still don't know), all the other illustrations show them as round spheres, whatever if it was Gary Chalk or Brian Williams that draw them. As for the faceted surface, maybe it is literally inside the Lorestone and the real surface that covers it is smooth.

An interesting tad-bit here (LW Newsletter 8)
Could you tell me the names of all the Lorestones of Nyxator? (Andrew Simmons, Devon)
The names of the seven Lorestones of Nyxator are: VARETTA, HERDOS, OHRIDO, TAHOU, LUOMI, GAMIR and VINALDO
-----------
You know, seriously, I always wondered about the last two!

Ehi, and so Gamir = Darke and Vinaldo = Shpyder... and so two of the Lorestones were one near the other... good to know !

Well why Nyxator made them, I doubt he had access to machine tools and item blueprints. They may look fairly similar but the most powerful one (I forget now which one) is probably the biggest.

There is also the little issue raised by the Novels regarding the cathedral of Tekaro. If the novel is taken as true there should be a Sommerswerd and the lorestone of Varetta lying next to the rotting corpse of Lone Wolf and a deceased Dakomyd.
Would there be any benefit to retrieving that as well? (ie are 8 better than 7 if two are the same?)
