I was cruising the project aon sight and I saw this link. I wanted to check it out but I can't get the stupid thing to work. I tried to open it directly and nothing happened so I downloaded it. I tried to open it with Internet Explorer and that didn't work. Is there a specific program I should open it with? Thanks.

It's a bzip2'ed tar file. The same page that I guess you got the probability calculator from, www.projectaon.org/sanctum/utilities.htm, also has links to some tools that can open them. Myself I use an older freeware version of PowerArchiver, PowerArchiver 2001, to open them when I'm on a Windows box.

I have also been unable to get the lwcspc to work. I have unzipped it and think I understand how to create a combat file, but can't get anything to happen after that.
I know nothing about perl, so any instructions should be as foolproof as "open perl program. Type 'readcombat example2.combat | lwcspc' Press enter Results will appear in..."
I have tried every variation on the above that I can think of, but all that happens is the perl window closes.
Any help will be gratefully received!

Okay, I've never tried using this program, so I'm working on guesses here when I tell you what you should do, but I think I've got a good idea of what's going wrong. Perl isn't like, say, Word - it's not a program which you run and then open documents (scripts) with. If it doesn't have a script to run when it opens, it just closes. What I'm guessing will work is if you typeperl readcombat example2.combat | lwcspc at the command prompt. If that doesn't work, then I'll need more details to be able to work it out. (I've assumed you're on Windows with Perl installed and hopefully with its path set so that it works from a command line.)

Thanks. I'm afraid that my problem was missing out one very important word from the command line: "perl"! No wonder it was having some difficulty.
As far as I can tell, the program has now run the script, although it isn't displaying any output, so this is a big step forwards for me. Thanks again; now I just need to work out how to get the results.
