Q****** is because we don't want excessively offensive words in this forum.

Yeah, it's an old joke, and I get it. I'm just saying it's annoying. I mean... I know I'm not a bastion of propriety and good form, but doesn't it just seem a little juvenile?

The creation of an unnecessarily powerful and unlikeable character and her forcible insertion into a storyline that didn't require her--that's juvenile. Ignoring an established main character in favour of bland, irritating minor characters, even promoting their roles to that of leads while relegating the alleged lead to that of a bit-player--that's juvenile. Using a quickly cobbled-together Mary Sue in place of a truly well-designed and interesting character--that's very juvenile. Being able to speak one's mind about such dreadful characters, and even find that a large number of fellow fans agree with you--well, if that's juvenile, it's a legacy of the awful character in the first place. Juvenility is, I suppose, in the eye of the beholder, but I find in-jokes and long-standing quotes/phrases to be a hallmark of an established foum worth visiting. Otherwise, it could seem very sterile, with no real history. It might take a bit of getting used to, but it's worth the hassle. And I hate that Cloeasian witch. I hate her, I hate her, I hate her! Waaaah!!

Steady on, poor Outs. Perhaps we could have Thomas have the filter bleep out that terribly offensive word or maybe replace it with "Cloeasian Mary-Sue" NS.

I am not disputing the fact that Qinefer is a terrible character and shows a remarkable lack of maturity on John Grant’s part (how can you not make your Lone Wolf stories about Lone Wolf? That’d be like writing an Indiana Jones movie which focuses on Marcus Brody and still calling it “Indiana Jones and the Public Library of Doom.”) I hate Qinefer as a character as much as anyone else. I just think the joke is stale and juvenile. It’s like people who say H-E-double hockey sticks. I can’t be the only person who thinks the cheese is old and moldy.

Alright, I'll come clean... I...am...a juvenile... there I admit it. But if Q******* isn't the most irritating character to upstage what is a fantastic well developed fantasy world I give up.( I'm on your side outspaced, don't give in ) Also, if I had read Legends before I had read Flight from the Dark I wouldn't have read anything to do with LW, Magnamund or had anything to do with the community at PA. As a middle aged person still reading children's books, am I a juvenile...

Middle-aged? What's middle-aged nowadays? (And if anyone says 35-52 because that's what LWd20 says, I'll just look at them hard!)

I just think the joke is stale and juvenile. It’s like people who say H-E-double hockey sticks. I can’t be the only person who thinks the cheese is old and moldy. Don't like it? Tough. The joke's been around a long while, and a lot of people still find it entertaining. Too bad. Not intending to pick a fight - just telling it the way it is. -GB

Fair enough, but as the Mocking Jester, I simply can't get behind it. I've laughed more at Bob Hope specials.

*shudder* I'm 26 next month. It takes a bit to reconcile the fact that there are people here who are easily in their late 30s or 40s!!
