Lone Wolf XI had a CS of 18 and 26 EP - another viable character! But, it was another case of Death By Random Number and Stupid Itikar. If I ever see a giant bird, you can rest assured that I won't be riding it.
Lone Wolf: 0, Durenese Gardeners: 2, Drakkarim: 1, Sommlending Roof-Tilers: 1, Parsion: 1, Bandit Sniper: 1, Stupid Itikar: 2 , Zakhan Kimah: 1 , Ice Barbarians: 1, Burrowcrawler: 1

Nathan,
Keep up the good fight! Kai never say Die! I think it is really cool that I am not the only one doing this quest. It makes it more exciting and let's face it - it is inspiring!
Kai Team Ten - Mini Update
SPOILERS:
I ran Beat Down through The Legacy of Vashna all alone in order to get an idea what was ahead. I got him through the whole book until the end. So many riddles! Am I really so dense or was it because I was playing until 1:00 in the am? Anyway, I couldn't get Shamath's riddle (so I took out my sword and said, "Here's my answer") then I couldn't get the answer to the riddle on the Crystal Dias, but then I did get the answer to the second sequence of numbers. So then a whirlwind arose and sucked me into the nether-realm (Alyss, WHERE WERE YOU WHEN I ACTUALLY NEEDED YOU?). At least I saved Magnamund from Vashna. I did glean a very important bit of information, however. Kai-Alchemy would have eliminated the chance of death - guess what skill I am giving to Iron Wolf and Avatarus? YES you guessed it. That Kai Alchemy seems to be good for everything. OK, OK, I give up. So Lone Wolf is a wizard now!
Peace, Sol

KAI-TEAM-TEN Progress
My goal: to finish all 20 books without cheating. All Teams Completed: The Legacy of Vashna
Total Kai Remaining: 2
Lost in Sommerlund: 3 Lost in Durenor: 1 Lost in Kalte: 5 Lost in Vassagonia: 5 Lost in Castle Death: 1 Lost in Tharro: 5 Lost in Tahou: 2 Lost at Cetza: 4 Lost in Ruel: 2 Lost at Maakengorge: 1
Important Progress: ?
Survived: Avatarus, Iron Wolf
Died: Beat Down
Best CS: Iron Wolf (58) Worst CS: Avatarus (55)
Tweaks: ***Keys, Whistles can count as Special Items. ***Weapon-Like-Special-Items may be kept in a Weapons-slot. ***Stackable Discipline Bonuses.
SPOILERS and NOTES:
I sent Beat Down in first - I ran the whole adventure with this character alone in order to guage the difficulty of the book. I was very careful to stay away from trouble. I stayed away from the ninjas. I never went in a cabin (fearing ambush). I carefully fought all battles. My downfall: all the puzzles! Shamath's puzzle confounded me - it seemed to have multiple possible answers. So I fought her - my CS was plenty high. Then Cadak went down with ease. Boo hoo, miss him I won't! Finally, time to smash the dias with the Death Staff. MORE PUZZLES! I couldn't solve the first one. The second one I could guess and did - but then in order to survive the maelstrom, it was Random Roll time. Alas, even though my Endurance was plenty high, Beat Down got beat down... he died.
Even so, I realized that he would have made it for sure if he had Kai Alchemy (a hefty +5!) so before beginning again with Avatarus and Iron Wolf, guess what GM Discipline I chose for them? Yes, you are correct. Telognesis is what I picked for Beat Down but I knew that it had been pretty useless all book. I decided on Kai Alchemy of course. Rather than try to answer those riddles again, I just chose this - if I could reach the end again, it would be a guaranteed win.
That's just what I did.
Even though I tried the other puzzles again, I just didn't try too hard. I reminded myself that to stay from the guaranteed path would be pure folly, especially now with only two Grand Masters left and four books to go.
This book was great fun to play - perhaps the most enjoyable yet. I cannot wait to start reading the next. By the Kai, wish me success!

By the Kai, wish me success! Ah... yes, it's the Deathlord's turn now, isn't it? We'll keep a couple of graves open. I wish you success! Seriously, nice work as ever, Sol. You're inspiring me to give the team approach a shot myself. Just wish LWAC ran on this computer, that'd be my preference in tracking methods. (Well you'd think so, of course. )

You know, I don't think it is solvable. The correct answer is 10 but I don't see any logical way to come to that answer. It's as if a piece is missing, or as if the puzzle isn't important at all and we're supposed to be getting some subtle hint elsewhere. This is one to ask Joe about, unless someone here has an idea of how to solve it that I'm missing.
Same with the first Deathstaff puzzle, though that just might be because I'm tired.
I seem to remember, now, having this issue the first time I played this book. I remember being excited because I love logic puzzles (have books of em here) and because I liked the puzzles in captives of Kaag (another puzzle ridden book). But then... well... I don't like unsolvable puzzles.
Honestly, if anyone has a logical way to solve this, let me know. Because even working backwards from the answer doesn't seem to turn up much.

Shamath's riddle is not mathematically solvable. See for instance this thread. Whether or not it is "linguistically" solvable is debated...

Important Progress: Added Kai-Surge for Iron Wolf
Survived: none
Died: Avatarus, Iron Wolf
Tweaks: ***Keys, Whistles can count as Special Items. ***Weapon-Like-Special-Items may be kept in a Weapons-slot. ***Stackable Discipline Bonuses.
SPOILERS and NOTES:
Avatarus: Was at a -11 Combat Ratio against the Deathlord of Ixia (did not have Kai-Surge, so CS was 49 vs. 60 (!) )
Iron Wolf: defeated the Deathlord, then:
You sprint across the rubble and rush through the collapsing archway. But in your desperate hurry to escape you slip on a chunk of crystal and fall heavily against a pilaster, gashing your head. Dazed with concussion, you fail to move out of the way in time to avoid being crushed to death by a falling keystone.
Your incredible courage has brought about the defeat of the evil Deathlord, saving untold millions from an eternity of slavery in his service. So long as there is Good upon Magnamund you will never be forgotten. Sadly, though, death is the price you paid for victory.
Your life and your quest end here in Xaagon.
NOTE - This was the coolest adventure I have ever played.

Ha haha, Shamath is a naughty trickster! I am sure of it! I think I do buy the argument that this puzzle is linguistic. I had a feeling it might be, but it was very cool to see it spelled out. As for working out an equation where x ended up being x, that's just what I did, too!
Peregrine, judging from your comment, I would say you had some prior experience with the Deathlord. Ha ha, thanks for that, they did come in handy!

Peregrine, judging from your comment, I would say you had some prior experience with the Deathlord. Ha ha, thanks for that, they did come in handy! Yes indeed, it was the first Lone Wolf book I bought (look for me in the credits when PA publishes it ). I don't know that I ever finished it legitimately, but I always got a bit of a kick out of just reading through it like a book and exploring various paths, so I once knew Ixia quite well. (I think I can still recall which battles it's safe to use the Sommerswerd in, and which will get you killed. ;D) Pun intended?

If I ever see a giant bird, you can rest assured that I won't be riding it. Fleeing Helgedad in Book 12 might be a bit awkward then. I think you'll find the bird beats walking ;D

So... back to the beginning for you, Sol? YES! Of course. I am going to do one thing a little differently... I talked about this a little while back. Fate Rolls - I will make all the instant-death rolls ahead of time - legal because I made the rolls, sanity-saving because I will not have to keep track of characters that are meant to die. Nothing more frustrating than making it all the way to, say, Book 14, gaining power, making good choices, then getting shot out of the sky by a giant arrow. I think I will only make these rolls for the unavoidable rolls that I know about. So far: In Book 2: The mast In Book 3: The Ice Flows In Book 4: The sniper In Book 5: The Ikitar In Book 9: The dagger-throw (If I do this, I have committed to leaving the Sun-Sword behind and throwing the dagger) In Book 13: The bridge (I would commit to Assimilance and Huntmastery) Book 14: Getting shot while escaping Kaag Book 17: The escape from the Death Lord's realm Did I miss any (up to Book 17 only, plz) Sol monty - I LOVED Book 17! Finally, a worthy foe. Not like boring "the man" Cadak.

Yeah, book 17 is awesome. And I've only read the US edition. Your avatars are all the US covers, but I hope you're reading the UK editions instead. A word of advice - start a new thread for your next team adventure.
