Particularly those who have scoured the web for them
Do you still read the books or do you keep them in pristine condition, afraid to crease a corner for fear of reducing their market value?

I don't have all of them but I will give you my input.
Some of them I still read (the ones that I bought or got handed down from my local libraries and used book stores) but some of them (my mint condition Red Fox edition of the Curse of Naar) are untouched.

I got book 17 ( first edition of the French version) twice the same day as my birthday presents. The cover of one of them was a little bit torn for some reason. So, I always played with this book and never touch the other one. I wonder how much it is worthing now?

I own Books 1, 11, 21 and 27. As far as I'm concerned, books are meant to be read, and gamebooks are meant to be played. So I do.
Sure, this doubtless diminishes the value of them, but this doesn't really bother me.

I got 5,10 and 16. I play them because I don't care about the value I had these 3 books since I was like 15.

Well, at one time I owned them all. I had a reading set and several shelf copies. I guess it all depends on what you want to do with them in the end. I kept mine in mint or near mint condition simply because I feared the day when I would have to sell them--sadly it came. Still, if I had them, there would be 20 books in ramshackle shape, and several pristine copies. Sorry if this isn't too coherent. I'm trying to carry on a conversation at the same time with my 3 year old son, who wants to know if all these emoticons are the faces of all the friends I'm writing. KL

Well, I usually read the ones online that are available that way, but have always used my books for maps, references, game information, etc. I have never used the action charts on the copies I own now (U.K. releases) but did when I was a kid in my U.S. books. I make a major point of keeping everything in the same condition I got it in, although some books I have won on Ebay are a bit banged up or covered in library plastic. New Order books I have no choice but to read; who knows when they'll make it on PA! We're at least a couple years away, I would imagine. Even if PA was never to release another book, I would still read my own because that's why I got them--not to have them sit on a shelf looking pretty but because I enjoy the adventures.

I didn't scour the net to complete my collection of all LW 1-20 just to resell them. The thought seriously hadn't even occurred to me. As it happens, I've been re-reading the lot (including the ones I didn't previously have and scoured the net for) and I'm on 15. I'm not worried about the market value because now I have no intention of selling them. I do however have a single New Order book and the knowledge that I'll not be able to afford to complete that collection in the forseeable - so might be selling that, and indeed avoided doing anything that might affect its sale price.

Heh. We're at it again GB. Books are there to be read, not to sit on a shelf and collect dust - hence the reason all those collectible games and collectible dolls and such are worthless to me. I keep all my books in good condition, but I'm not obsessive about having a mint shelf copy by ANY stretch of imagination NS.

Oh, Deiseach, would your name be pronounced DIE-SACK by any chance? It sounds vaguely Celtic.

Oh well. I was pretty close (for me). I can correctly spell almost any word I come across, but my pronounciation of new or foreign words is lousy (hence the reason I also have a "standard" British accent).

I'm a 17-year-old American, so of course I don't have all the books...I never read the paper versions anymore, only the online books...

Well, even though it took me years to get them all, and I am a huge collector of games of all kinds, I also feel that it kinda destroys the purpose if I don't use em.
1. I ain't ever selling them, so monetary value isn't worth it to me 2. Life is imperminant. We are finite beings, as are those things we create. Trying to keep something alive forever isn't going to work.
That said, I am way obsessive compulsive about these things and try to keep them in the best condition possible, meaning most of my books (especially those I got new) are in above average condition, with little or no markings. The used ones tend to be pretty beat up, courtesy of previous owners.
Most expensive? Magnamund Companion. Cost me $150

I'm not too concerned with market value since I don't plan on selling them. However, I generally try to take good care of my books. So most of are in good condition and a few are in pristine. Book 1 is really the only one that's rather beat up (no surprise there right?)
