Someone put two new order books on auction and I was quickly outbidded. Project Aon keep going! so that I won't have any regret.

Yeah. It wouldn't surprise me if those books sold for over $100.

Out of interest, what's the highest amount anyone's paid for a LW book? I still haven't managed to buy VofM and don't know just how much I should shell out for it (damn my frugality).

That is the highest I have seen them go for, but I have seen them go for a few hundred pounds on ebay...
Insane, eh?

I bought all my Books 1 through 20 for cover price ( and subsequently pick up any 'crisp' copies I can find at Half Price Books for less than the cover price). Not long after Books 21-27 went out of print, I managed to acquire some through international sites for perhaps 15-25 bucks apiece (I think this was in 2000 or 2001). I think I got ahold of three. Found I didn't much care for the "New Order", so I posted them on Amazon.com for what I paid for them (even then folks were starting to ask over $100 for each). They went pretty quickly. I suppose I could've profitted off them ( I think the person who bought them immediately reposted them for the typical 'over $100' price - may they always get squashed by the mast of the Green Scepter in Book 2 ) but that doesn't strike me as particularly laudable.

For me, these prices clearly demonstrate the case for PA uploading "quick 'n' dirty" PDF versions of the remaining books, which admittedly would look like crap but would function as placeholders until they can be replaced by versions which meet the high standard of quality which PA has established to date. The remaining books - New Order in particular- have effectively been removed from the public domain by greedy sellers. The PDFs would also make it easier to recruit volunteers as every single member of this forum would suddenly have access to the text, instead of just a small percentage. But I'm sure there's a good reason to not do this, or it would have been done already.

You think those prices are high? Look at this.Honestly, I think PA should put that book online next just so the price on it drops.

We don't have the text for any of the NO books scanned in yet; it's still in progress (cf. this page.) FWIW I'm sort of in agreement; I really got a kick out of posting The Skull of Agarash online, just to bring the Ebay prices down to a saner level, and the expanded The Magnamund Companion is actually superior to the printed copy, what with all the extra material placed in the Appendix. Still, mackling something up for a quick release that you intend to return to in the future can actually throw up more problems than doing a good job in the first place. (I should know . . . flipp[/b]ing Club Newsletters . . .) If we had more volunteers, of course, things would likely move faster. (See the White List for information on what potential projects are available, even to those without access to the books.) We've been working on a website that's easier to maintain, and that's obviously taken quite some time recently. It should be officially released soon. Just in case anyone thought we were being idle.

Still, mackling something up for a quick release that you intend to return to in the future can actually throw up more problems than doing a good job in the first place. This is no doubt true. But then it's also the fastest way to get the text into the public domain- is that not PA's function, when all is said and done? Apologies if these posts make me sound disgruntled or ungrateful for the work of Project Aon's volunteers. I'm not at all. I'm just griping because that entry on Amazon has caused me to finally accept that I will NEVER own a complete set of Lone Wolf books. £500 is a psychological milestone.

All right, all right--I'll help! Sheesh. I know it's taken me nearly a damn year to volunteer, but... I'll help. Honest. I'll sign up to do something as soon as I get home.

The synopsis of the book isn't even correct, so the question is whoever is selling this, do they know the story or is it simple profiteering?..the easiest way to make the price fall is to starve demand for the books, from buyers as well as access to the text through P.A. It makes me feel uneasy (almost physically ill, in a way) to see what is ultimately a children's book 'go to the block' to the highest bidder, and I don't mind people selling stuff they don't want anymore, that shows a level of practicality, but, (this is the [pregnant dog]in bit) someone honestly expects to generate that sort of price...( really, what is going on...) Edit I just got done by the boards, that is hilarious!!

That price on Amazon is way higher than the standard selling prices on Ebay though, where the NO books tend to go for GBP20-30 each. I suppose I should just bite the bullet and buy VotM for that price, but I'm quietly hoping to find it for next to nothing in a book sale somewhere (as I did with FF59 Curse of the Mummy).

I just put Voyage of the Moonstone up for auction on E-bay, and it's price is still low, though I don't expect it to stay where its at. Rather than collect the whole series, I'm just getting one new order book at a time, and putting the old book up for auction for others to share. It's gonna be a long wait for #22.
