Ooh! How about (HIGHLIGHT TO READ) putting her into a combat right outside a jungle with a giant insect where she is forced to evade, and if she chooses to stand and fight, or if she beats it in one round (which she will, being the bearer of PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWERS), she gets torn to pieces? And, get this . . . she doesn't know that she has to evade.
For the life of me, I can't figure out what Grey Star that was worse than simply being Qinefer where he deserved such a fate. Wytch-King?

Err, well ... That's a tad embarrasing, you see ... That, uh, trap you described there ... wasn't meant for G. in the first place ... Expected Q. to get there before him ... Oh, dear God. You don't suppose that was Grant/Barnett's plan, do you? That it was Q***** who fought the Wytch-King instead of Grey Star? Ugh! I feel so dirty! The dirt's not coming off! I've been touched by it and it's stuck. Erm . . .

Would the people who hate Qinefer so much hate her if her abilities and gifts actually led to something ? I mean, she was given great strength, speed and agility, and given some of the more meatier storylines, only to have her written out by literally walking off. Would it have helped if there was some sort of grand purpose to her being there ? Like if she was destined to sacrifice her life to save Lone Wolf, or to do something akin to what Petra did in Legends Book #11 ? With all the effort put into her character, the way she was written out was just horrible.

Actually, those of us in the anti-Q****** party think the way she was written in was horrible. Her 'gifts' never led to anything more than self-aggrandisement and served merely as a means of weakening Lone Wolf's character. The series is entitled Legends of Lone Wolf, and therefore was supposed to have him as the central character. A central character is also supposed to be somewhat likable. In many of the books, Lone Wolf is shunted aside by other characters, Q****** especially. He is also often portrayed as whiny and useless--as I said elsewhere on the site, why didn't the gods select someone else to save the world if Lone Wolf was so rubbish? Why not select someone like Q******? After all, she's so great, and wonderful, and smart, and clever, a better warrior than LW, etc., and she's even achieved tao. Hmm. I didn't like her character when she first appeared, nor did I like her character in any of the subsequent books. Writing the annoying wench out of the series was one of the best decisions in the books, especially since it ultimately led to the peerless and ANC-less The Lorestone of Varetta, which is the best book in the series.

Ah, I messed up. I misread the question and thoughtlessly assumed was 'how would you like ALYSS to be killed?'..in which case Lone Wolf applying an 'attitude readjustment' to her with the Sommerswerd was the most poetic form of justice of the options. ;D
But I'd still like to cast my vote on Quinefer...I don't necessarily want to see her DEAD, but a good thumping with a baseball bat wouldn't be out of order in my books.
Speaking of books, anytime I see one of the Legends series at the local Half Price books, I go out of my way to buy it (at half cover price) so that I may promptly trash that waste of wood pulp.
I consider it a small price to pay to remove some of that blight from existence... ;D

Half cover price, at that!!!

The first two (Eclipse of the Kai is the first) are the better books in my opinion. I have nothing against The Sword of the Sun where Lone Wolf has his throat cut by the fisherman and is revived, and I actually think the epilogue to The Sacrifice of Ruanon (the universally-reviled technological section) is rather amusing and a nice change of pace. Granted, it DOES stick out like a sore thumb though! I detest The Tellings (and I don't really like any of them past The Claws of Helgedad), but it's ironic to note that on Grant's website, the interview states that he believes that the first two were fairly stock, the others gradually got better and he actually genuinely believes that The Tellings is his best book!!! *gag*

You can pick them all up in PDF from Grant's website for $25 (£14ish). I've only read the first two (found a second hand copy of the omnibus edition when I was looking for something else) and I might get the others sometime.

Even in his own 'telling', he doesn't appear, since it's the story of the theft of the Book of the Magnakai. I actually quite like The Tellings myself, Lone Wolf's story being the best in there. The Lorestone of Varetta is probably the best of the Legends series since it portrays Lone Wolf in a rather positive light (for a change . . .) and he neither whines nor is shunted aside in favour of a non-Aon character. The writing style is also eminently readable, something that cannot be said for his earlier books, Claws and Sacrifice being particularly clunky, IIRC.

Why don't we impale her on a stick and then put fire to her? Then we can use her as a torch and make a relay with all the people that hate her, singing that old disco song: "Burn, baby, burn, Disco inferno! Burn, baby, burn, burn that mother down!" I know, it might not be as cruel as your other ideas, but keep in mind that I never read the Legends series. I was just trying to help you guys.

I hate being the odd one out, but I never hated Qinefer. Maybe it's that I never had the ability to read past Hunting Wolf. When does she start becoming so atrocious that we must assign a number of awful, grisly fates to her? At least this way I can brace myself for it.
Frankly, Alyss annoyed me from the very beginning of Eclipse and I've never really liked her. I was perfectly willing to accept that Lone Wolf, Banedon, and Qinefer were destined for greatness and were a symbol of Good, but why does some impertinent red-head with the audacity to give Ishir a raspberry have to be at the center of it all?
I just ordered the entire electronic Legends collection, so I will finally have the opportunity to judge the whole series.
