Ok, if I get the Sommerswerd do I HAVE to use the rules for that when fighting like, a Helghast, or can I just pretend to use the Sunswerd, and not add the CS? You know, to make the game more challenging. What do you think? Me, I think it'd be kinda cool.

Technically, you can do whatever you want. After all, no one is monitoring you--it's not like the book is an active GM or something. If you think that makes the game more challenging, go right ahead.

Excellent. I really like the way the Combat System is laid out. Joe did a killer job on it. But darnit, some of the characters are pretty tough to beat, like in the later books. 45 CS, 70 EP... Shew! I know that's not in any book I've read so far, but it was an estimate.

I do not think that there is any rule that states that you have to use the Sommerswerd in all of your combats once you have it. you can use whatever weapon you want, and treat the sunsword as the heavy artillery to call in when the going gets tough...
I agree, the combat system is pretty good, although I do not understand why the ratios are so tilted towards LW (not that I am complaining when I am fighting the heavies, mind you!)

Ratios are tilted toward Lone Wolf because as each series progresses, the items you carry over and the Disciplines you use make you increasingly badass, but the books have to be playable by people who started on that book, as well. Those of us who play them one by one and have every special item, combat Discipline, Lore Circle, and extra bonus allowed just end up facing enemies who are to us as tomatos to a blender, while the n00bs have a tougher time of it without the Sommerswerd, Weaponskill, a Chainmail Waistcoat, and a full pouch of Alether berries. This is a gamebook shortcoming that really can't be fixed because there's no AI to determine what "challenging" is.

To answer Hunting Wolf, I have found one combatant that rates CS47 and End68 after being lightly wounded, (hint book 11) and a certain DL from Argazad had CS45 and End48 (Book 12) but there are easier ways of doing these fights. And to be fair to JD how do you make a series more challenging and yet introduce newbees( or is that nOObs)

Personally, I think that all LWs should have had the Sommerswerd... it could easily have been introduced as a peice of standard kit at the begining of every book. I wonder if it was a marketing ploy... make the books individually extrememly hard, but easier (and therefore more enjoyable) if you complete then (and buy them) sequentially.

I must agree! with North Star. However when I first played the books I had to skip Book 2, I purchased it after Book 5, and when I went back over prevous books boy did that make life easier. So no, I cannot see the most powerful artefact weapon on Magnamund being traded at the local market as standard kit.

That is not quite what I meant, I mean that after book two, it should be standard kit for Lone Wolf, not just Joe Anyone. I mean, the storyline kind of demands it, what is the whole point of Kalte, for example, if you did not already do the first two? The books are based on a premise that you have a past, a past that includes surviving the attack on the monistary throught to retreiving the Sommerswerd and defeating DL whats his name. Just makes sense to me that the Sommerswerd should be a part of LWs kit, that is all.

But other books had unique items ( I didn't realise how hard it was to find a Kalte Firesphere till I replayed the book again and couldn't find the bl***y thing) that would have ongoing benefits, Silver Helms, Jewelled Maces and Bronin Hammers spring to mind ( I'm a fan of the Silver Bow myself), and lets not forget Blue Daggers with curvy blades (not curvy women, mercenaries included)

I know what you mean, but out of all the items, only the sommerswerd was mandatory for completing the book and central to the story, am I correct? The sommerswerd is in a legue of its own, it is part and parcel of LW, as far as I can think of no other Item is as important, the firesphere (which is the coolest item ever) is not really all that important, when all is said and done, nor are any of the other items, they all come in handy, but none of them are as central to the plot, in fact, in many ways the sommerswerd is the plot.

Agreed, the sommerswerd is definately integrel to the image of the Kai, Magnamund and LW himself. The books wouldn't be the same ( nor DLs as easy to kill -it's purpose was to kill DLs and keep Sommerlund save-). without the imagery of a green hooded dude with his golden sword cuting down the evil dudes, or anyone else not wise enough to get out of his way.
Another question, Book 16 has Cadak using magic equipment to revive Vashna, as a Cener Druid was he also an Acolyte of Vashna, cause I always saw them as separate organisations, both evil but working towards their own goals.

I'm amused at the image of the Sommerswerd being standard issue, though I know that wasn't the point.
Kai: Green cloak.
LW: Check.
Kai: Blonde hair.
LW: Check.
Kai: Dazzlingly milk pale skin.
LW: Check.
Kai: Sommerswerd.
LW: What?
Kai: You know--standard issue hero sword. Incredibly powerful, glows with the might of the sun, built for murdering the hell out of Darklords.
LW: Oh. You mean Beth. *pats the scabbard at his hip* Check.
Kai: Good soldier. Go kill me some Darklords, boy.
LW: Yessir.
As for the Cenerese and the Acolytes of Vashna, I think the two orders sort of merged purposes somewhere around the book 13 area.

The Cener Druids follow Xuzargha, the cener god of pestilence. I can understand why you might think that way ( after the destruction of Helgedad and all the DLs killed, or not killed,), but those with faith in Vashna wouldn't care about the results in Helgedad, some might even be eager to see it as an opportunity to fill the power vacuum, like Xoal and others. So I think my question remains....
