I've decided to do some major re-writing of the code, in order to accomplish a few things: 1) - make it easier to read (by others) - have some sort of consistency in style, of which there is currently none 2) - increase the reliability/stability of the program. Random crashes are not good. (I need to think about the top-down structure. It was build entirely bottom-up. If this makes no sense, sorry, but it's the reason for any sort of random crashes you may have experienced.) 3) - increase the power and flexibility of my development tools, in order to ensure their ability to be used by people other than myself, which will hopefully result in a small team for the "Seventh Sense" project, in order to actually make all of the Lone Wolf books available, and in a more timely fashion. (Realistically, if it's just me working on it with my current tools, it will take a couple of years just to finish the Magnakai series, and I wouldn't probably do anything beyond that.)
So, I'm not taking a hiatus from the program, but it might be a bit(hopefully not too long) before the next version comes out. That said, I will be looking for volunteers to join me once I get my development tools finished. If your interested in helping out, it should be fairly easy to help out once we have proper tools. Don't bother asking about it yet, but keep it in mind for the hopefully not too distant future.

I have tried it and I think it's great. Can't wait for you to add the next few books! One problem - how to you take healing potions?

You click the green circular arrow located in the backpack tab.
Works fine as I recall.

Where do I post information regarding a bug?
In Fire on the Water, section 300 - I picked '1' then I am unable to proceed. The option to goto 224 is not available.
BTW - This software is fantastic! I've been looking to re-connect with these books for years and this is ideal - thanks to you and Project AON for all your great work!

This is the place, numbtie! Thanks for reporting that. I will look into it and post an updated file.
(Thanks for the compliments. I'm glad you enjoy it!)
Edit: Okay, new version is uploaded which fixes the problem numbtie mentioned. Stupidly enough, if you originally installed the "full" package, but then install the "core" package to update it, it will erase the .zips that were installed originally! So, be forewarned - you can simply move them/rename them, do the update, then move them back. Or just download the "full" package again. Whatever. I'll get things sorted out for the next version - I'm going to use a more powerful installer with more options.
numbtie, you will most likely need to restart the book after you "Resume Campaign". Sorry about that, but you'll at least get to keep your stuff from book 1.

I'll volunteer for the project What language is it written in? (Or will there be a way to work on it using custom building tools?) As an example, the project I was building works with CSV files containing all the navigation instructions. The idea behind that was if a project team were formed, they could write the CSV files, and just give me a list of pages that needed additional code.

hi I registered to the forum just to say that your app really blew me away!! I'm a long time fan of lone wolf books and this is just a great way to play them. Will you add all the books in the series in this?
While I am at it I greet all the gamebook fans here, I grew up with this kind of literature and is soo good to see them back with a big following.
Cheers, franz

I'll volunteer for the project What language is it written in? (Or will there be a way to work on it using custom building tools?) I would be glad to have your help! The project is written in "native" c++ (by which I mean, no windows-specific stuff, like .net or anything - should be very easily ported to both Linux & Mac OS), with SDL for all of the graphics/input handling. The "team", when it is formed, will have no responsibility to code anything - the custom building tools should be sufficiently flexible to cover 98% of the stuff needed for each book. Occasionally, I will have to add some extra code to cover special things that arise in the books, such as custom combat actions (the Javek fight in book 3, for instance), and whatnot. But for the most part, it should be a pretty painless experience... That is, once I finish making the fundamental code changes which are already underway. I'll be sure to let you know when it's finished, or close. franz - Thanks for the compliments! I'm glad to hear that you like it so much. Yes, the plan is to have all of the books available for playing this way.

numbtie, you will most likely need to restart the book after you "Resume Campaign". Sorry about that, but you'll at least get to keep your stuff from book 1. This reveals one of the current weaknesses in the ability to update the program. Games in progress are no longer valid (Though campaigns still are - the "save points" in-between books). Rest assured that I have figured out a way to resolve bugs similar to this that are found in-game, which will fix the bugs, and allow you to pick up right where you left off. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait for the next version, with the major code changes... Just thought I'd let you know that I'm aware of the issue and addressing it.

A quick bug report: Kai rank 7 (Guardian) is misspelled in the Action Chart Doh! How embarrassing! Will be fixed for next release. (Glad you enjoy the program, though.)

I can't wait for more books to be available to play on your program but one small oversight I thought to mention: Fire on the Water section 106 allows you to fight the Helghast without the Magic Spear. I had no weapon when I got to that section so the program gave me a 4 point penalty for being unarmed. It wouldn't allow me to pick up the Magic Spear until after I won the fight. Without a magic weapon I should have been unable to harm the Helghast.

Found bug in Fire on the Water, section 346: When I chose to eat a meal from my backpack (instead of paying 1 Gold Crown) I was directed to section 205. I had the money for the room (10 GC) but just did not want to pay for the meal.
The program is fantastic. Keep up the good work!

Wow, thanks guys! Your good bug reports are much appreciated. I am honored that for some of you, your first post is in regards to my program...
I will take note of these issues and will likely post a bug-fix version soon.
