An asterisk or double-dagger in a column beside the item name might help. You could leave a legend stating items marked with that count towards the total either at the top or bottom of the SI page. Gives a professional look, in my opinion anyways.
You could also have a tooltip saying it does if someone hovers over the symbol or blank space in the column to notify them as well (ie- "Dagger of Vashna counts towards Special Item limits" "Random Thing does NOT count towards Special Item limits" etc). Helps cut down on some of the bulk

Hi folks - the latest release (1.7.0) is out!
Book 7 is now available via Seventh Sense!
Also, be sure to check out the tons of new Prodigy gameplay awards that you can earn. That should give you plenty of replay value while awaiting book 8...
(I'm not even going to start book 8 for a couple of months, so don't even ask until we hit 2011.)
As always, I welcome your comments and suggestions in this thread. Please put error/bug reports in the appropriate thread.
Enjoy!

Now if I only had time to play- busy month LOL
I'll be checking it out once my anarchic streak is done in a couple weeks (still psyched to hear its out- number 2 on my fav LW book list, topped only by 10)

Hot on the heels of the book 7 intial release - the 1st bugfix 1.7.1 is now available. It fixes the issue with required item pickups (and probably other buttons involving whether you have a certain item yet or not...) So, now you *can* get the Sommerswerd, and Magic Spear, etc. etc. Now, go kill some Helghasts and Darklords already!

Okay, bugfix 1.7.2 release has a little more oomph to it: It fixes a few bugs and also gives a couple of enhancements. Full details in the Changelog thread.

Bugfix 1.7.3 fixes a couple of nefarious bugs introduced in v1.7, most notably the inability to use backpack items (like meals/potions) at seemingly random moments throughout the Kai series. Full details in the Changelog thread.

Just letting folks know that the 1.7.4 release is out.
This fixes several award-related bugs, adds the ability to earn most awards in either BTB, HC, or Prodigy modes, and adds in-game help pages (accessible on the Table of Contents).
For a full list of changes in 1.7.4 (quite a few!) see the 1.7.x Changelog thread.

One minor change I'd like to see in a future release- a campaign save at the beginning of book 1.
Lets say you get a desired CS, EP, Weaponskill, and starting item for whatever you're attempting to accomplish for one run, and want to use it to accomplish something else in another run. Clicking on either of the restart with saved data options on Book 1 could start you on passage 1 with your starting stats, disciplines, and equipment, pretty much just forgoing the game rules sections for that book. Or it could start you at the game rules section with the previously selected options saved and grayed out (permitting one to select different Disciplines if desired, though the item, stat, and GC picks would be what they were saved at regardless). The campaign data could save either at Passage 1 or when leaving it (since there's no items on that passage).
This would be a real time-saver when trying for different awards since you wouldn't have to draw up a new character from scratch each time you went for something in Book 1. It would also eliminate any anguish over having those perfect rolls you want to reuse, which would force one to put off restarting book 1 for a while since they want to keep them.

Exactly, but it would be good to have this option for all the books because of the awards.

Took a bit of a break, so I forget if this was brought up before. But it's something to chew on since it's a bit of a ways off...
Would it be possible to have a rule variant, when starting a campaign anywhere from books 1-12, that you could opt to lose all Special Items and LC bonuses at the start of the GM series in exchange for +15 CS and +10 EP?
This would essentially let you continue a campaign with something close to a new GM character. Discipline-related loyalty bonuses (WM, Psi-Surge, etc) probably could still apply, since it requires both completing the MK series and giving up a lot of other bonuses you accumulated along the way. It's debatable what rule sets it could be used in, if any outside of Custom.

great idea, kamikaze. I think it's definitely a Custom Rule, along with the possibility of keeping other gear as you go into the GM series.

I have a few suggestions in mind. I hope not to appear too annoying since my suggestions aren't exactly... cosmetics : - When you start a campaign, the only way to go back to the main menu is by closing the application and restarting it. A button like 'Quit to Main Menu' would be handy if the need to start a new profile will ever raise (brother/sister, parent, a friend and so on).
- The menu where you download books and covers and select the default cover could be split into two menu. The part where you select the default cover is just natural that needs to be liked with the profile but the rest could be detached from it and put into the main menu thus granting better accessibility.
- In said menu a button could be added to delete the .zip/covers of books if for whatever reason the files got corrupted (virus or whatever). Instead of manually looking for them on the file system and manually delete them.
- Lastly, it could be wonderful if a player profile could contain save slots for more campaigns. Maybe just 4, so with a single profile we could be able to play a campaign for each set of rules. Awards are already linked to the Profile so it shouldn't be impossible. Maybe
Please don't be to hard on me, I'm just overflowing with enthusiasm since I started using this little marvel of a program Gonna hide behind a wall now, just in case ;D

*takes careful aim*... Boom! Nuts - that wall got in the way...
Doc Doom, great suggestions. I've been a little unhappy with the way one can't access the main menu in-game, too. But every time I go to work on the program, I think "Okay, I can either spend a bunch of time trying to refine some of the existing stuff that mostly works okay, or I can spend that amount of time implementing further books and getting closer to actually being able to play to whole Magnakai series..."
You can see that I mostly decide to go with the 2nd option. But, I definitely like your suggestions and once the Magnakai is finished, there may be a bit of a re-design of the front end for the GM series.
