I just released version 0.3 of Magnamund Commander. Changes include: - Added the third book, The Caverns of Kalte.
- Added support for horizontally-stacked buttons, and retrofitted it in books 1 and 2.
- Added support for game options.
- Added option to use the Extended Combat Results Table.
You can start a new game directly from book 3 or carry on from book 2, as usual. For those of you who were stuck in book 2 section 350, the button to start book 3 is now enabled. Hope you all enjoy it!

Starting from the book 1, reference 1 all my options (except AC and main menu) were greyed out. A couple more ideas. In the rules stages, could you make it possible to jump around (like in 7th sense you can pick your endurance 1st, then go on to equipment, then go back and pick your disciplines etc). Also, I think that once you know what weapon you are skilled in, you should stick with that. As it is if you get a weapon you don't like you can unselect weaponskill, then reselect it, to get a new weapon to be skilled in instead.
EDIT: I also seem to have 10 CS and 0 E ?!?
EDIT2: I restarted and everything seems to work fine now. Interestingly I rolled the same for my weaponskill, gold crowns AND equipment, and perhaps CS and E (I can't remember what I got before for them)

I have just defeated the gourgaz without a hit due to a CS of 19 plus WS with sword and a string of great random no.s (9,0,9). Luck?

One other thing. When you set a weapon to use in combat, can you make it so it remembers your selection for future combats?

I've just noticed, there are no sub headings for the disciplines.

All random numbers are as random as can be, and are generated from the same source, so my guess is that you were pretty lucky... :-)
I will fix the weapon thing and also the auto-selected mindblast. I'm guessing that your best weapon is in slot two? I'll also look into locking the skilled weapon. I don't see what is the use of jumping around in the character setup sections... Why would you want to select your endurance, then your equipment and then your combat skill???

Yes. I have the dagger from the thing in the tunnel and Pelanther's sword, and have weaponskill sword
I don't know, but you might want to see what equipment you could get, or (in the magnakai series and on) what upgrades there were before picking your disciplines.
Could you do the 'named weapons all have special abilities' thing from 7th sense as an option?

How about an optional random number animation? Dave might let you use his, if you can't make one of your own

In book 2, around Ragadorn to Port Bax (my location at the time of posting) my endurance will not go above 17, and sometimes shoots down to 15. I have healing, 21 endurance max and have not used any healing items. (mainly because I haven't got any)

I have to admit it makes sense to check the upgraded disciplines before actually selecting them. It's not something that will be super easy to do though, I'll probably wait until I start the magnakai series to do it. Could you explain to me how the 'named weapons all have special abilities' works in 7th sense? I will definetly look into creating a RNT animation. It could be something around what 7th sense does, or simply the numbers changing in the RNT button like in a slot machine. I think I'd rather have something a little more graphical like 7th sense. Are you saying that your endurance randomly drops from 17 to 15 in some occasions?

You could just make a back button on each rules page couldn't you? Basically, Dave looked through the books and gave each weapon CS bonuses in certain situations , similar to the special abilities of the NO kai weapons (eg Prince Pelanther's sword [book 1] gave a CS bonus of 1 vs giaks and 3 vs vordaks, I think) Well, I note my endurance is 17, then a few paragraphs later (with no place to lose endurance) I look again and it's 15. This happened a couple of times before I decided to investigate by checking my endurance score every reference. I found that when I had reached 17 I did not gain any more endurance through healing. Don't ask me to check something in my game though, my computer jammed up not long after my last post and I lost my game. Why didn't I save

If you remember all your stats I can create you a saved game to replace the one you lost. (no cheating! ;-)) I'm also thinking of adding an auto-save feature that could have saved your *** in this kind of situation. That's an interesting option, I didn't know that 7th Sense did that. There are lots and lots of options and special rules in that software!!! Dave, I think that your help/collaboration on these matters would be very beneficial, If you don't mind sharing some stuff. I'll do a play-through to see if I can reproduce the endurance bug.

The named weapons gets bonuses rule is one of my house rules. I thought it would add some fun variety to the game, as along with that rule comes the de-powering of the Sommerswerd (+2 vs. all, +12 vs. darklords), so most of the time, it's in your advantage to equip a different weapon than the Sommerswerd.
You are welcome to use a similar idea in your program, but I think it would be best if you came up with your own bonuses and things for the named weapons (as well as what the named weapons even are... e.g. I did Fine Broadsword that you pay 12 gold crowns for in book 2... but the fine sword that one of the rescued shipwreckees gives you in book 3 - I didn't do that one)

Oh, is that why the Sommerswerd went like that? I thought it was a bug. I had 19 CS, 21 E (or should have), healing, hunting, mindblast, mindshield, weaponskill (sword), 6th sense, magic spear, sword, seal and was just leaving Port Bax (ref 31).

Thanks for the heads up Dave. Thats an interesting twist to the game. For now I think I'll stick with the more "classic" experience, at least until I have a couple more books out...
