Clue: There are two paths one can take in the beginning of the game, but only one can lead you to the Bow-less route.

Found it. Strange, though, I was never able to do it with the actual book. I wonder if it had a misprint....

My goal is to make it through the first 20 books starting with a legal character (no fudging the rules). I do this by playing with 10 characters at the same time. Each has to fight his fights separately and make rolls separately... think of it as playing 10 games at once. Only problem is that this time around, not a one got decent starting rolls. Since I don't believe in re-rolls (cheating!) I am going to take them all through the books anyway. Even if they die, I can probably discover many secrets.
I think this "stuff the backpack full of Alether" trick is a good one. I will definitely try it! Maybe I can even get one weakling to the Grandmaster series. Currently, I have completed Book 1 and all 10 survived. It takes a long time, but it sure beats starting back at Book 1 right away!
As for the Villians of Sommerlund, I think that will be the worst fight, especially since I have usually chosen to leave the Sommerswerd behind. Is it fair to drink 5 potions of Alether before a fight? In this case, I would give a resounding YES! Now if only I could drink Laumspur during the combat as well...

Good luck! If I can get through the Magnakai series with 10/20 stats, then everyone can get through the series with any stats! (And a good dose of luck, of course.)

Congratulations, Darkash.
Now to shoot you down: Can't you only take one Alether before combat? Wouldn't gobbling down loads of the stuff have some, I dunno, funky outcomes, like you grow a second head?
I have yet to face the Chaos Master. I only recently purchased Prisoners of Time.
I dread it, but I've got some ideas.

Technically, we're only ever told to take only one handful of Alether berries before a combat. The potions aren't explicitly limited, nor are potion/berry mixtures.

It comes down to how much time do you think you have to drink before the fight actually starts. Can you picture Lone Wolf telling the Chaos Master "Hold on there, chap, I need to finish my tea"?

Maybe Lone Wolf's 6th Sense lets him realize the need to chug Alether before the enemy arrives.

I don't think the Alether stacks...
Put it this way, one cup of coffee makes me alert, two cups makes me twitchy, and three cups makes me look for the nearest emergency room.

As far as I know, there is no limit on Alether. At least, as long as you are drinking potions and not eating berries. Honestly, though, the fact that you need to bring so much Alether just because you pulled a zero for CS (nevermind the END roll) shows that Joe really didn't do that good of a job balancing the later books. If he really played through Prisoners of Time with a "low" character (on their first run) and won, he must have pulled straight zeros for combat rolls. I mean, really, who could beat the Chaosmaster with even 19/29 stats if this was their first book? Never mind the Villains and you-know-who! At least 12 is possible with a mediocre new character, thanks to the cool items he put in the book. But 8-11? Not a chance!

I don't think the Alether stacks... Put it this way, one cup of coffee makes me alert, two cups makes me twitchy, and three cups makes me look for the nearest emergency room. When I drink more than 3 cups of coffee in less than one hour, I start shaking! I also found out that, after a while, I'm starting to lose all my stamina. I can't imagine Lone Wolf fighting like if he had the Parkinson's disease, shaking like crazy, and then, after the fight, sitting down because he has a down of energy.

Book 8 is very doable with a new character. 9 is also, actually more so, in some ways. 10 and 11 are toughies, though.

When I fight the Chaos Lord, I'll probably use my heightened abilities of the Magnakai to split myself into two lone wolfs, hitting twice per turn, but only taking one damage.

Interesting that the Project Aon crew decided not to go with the option that would have made the battle just a bit easier. Any particular reason you didn't interpret it as *five* rounds or less?
