If I remember there used to be agood LW rules faq site, but I think it's gone now. Along those lines a question arises...
If you are using a two handed weapon, like quarterstaff, is it required in LW to use both hands? Sounds like a loaded question...
And if so, then you can't use a shield with it, right? Basically, if you were unfortunate enough, like me this playthrough, to get weaponskill in quarterstaff, then you can never combine that with a shield for a +4 CS mod, right?

Yes on both questions. I never, ever use two-handed weapons if I can avoid doing so. I never pick Weaponskill anymore, either.

Yes on both questions. I never, ever use two-handed weapons if I can avoid doing so. I never pick Weaponskill anymore, either. Agreed on both points. I believe you don't find out until much later in the series that certain weapons are considered 'two handed' (when tells you you can now wield two handed weapons with one hand). And Weaponskill is perhaps the most useless Discipline in the Kai Lord series - once you have the Sommerswerd (Book 2), you dominate all melee combats from books 2 to 6.

Weaponskill isn't so bad. It's essential if you happen to roll a character with a CS of 10...

But then you have to roll to get your skilled weapon, and it could very well be something sucky like a Quarterstaff of Spear.
If you're in a dire CS situation you're really better off picking Mindblast and/or some other disciplines that'll help you avoid combat as much as possible.

I always pick Weaponskill though. Have I always been wrong? I suppose you could take Mindblast AND Weaponskill. Even so, the point about having a +2 (maybe) is well taken. Also, Book 1 and 2 are not so difficult. I could see one making it to the Sommerswerd without this extra +2.
I always considered 6th Sense to be the BEST Kai Discipline... the one I never leave the monostary without. Starting with Book 3, I consider Hunting to be the indispensible choice.

Am I the only one who uses the Shield and Spear together? It's a viable fighting technique - the ancient Greeks used to do it.

So did the Celts and several African tribes, for that matter.
I think Lone Wolf uses a fighting style that requires two hands for a spear; not only stabbing the opponent, but using the haft as a club as well. That's the best I can think of, anyway.

It would be sort of like a quarterstaff with Attitude.
