Hi folks, Pursuant to Honza's report, I'm opening this question up to discussion: What to do about mental bonuses in the combat with the door on book 7, section 214? You are unarmed, so get no weapon or weaponskill/mastery bonuses. The text also implicitly gives a +4 bonus for having Nexus (which is obvious). Less obvious would be the somewhat logical conclusion that having Mind over Matter (MOM) from the Kai series, but not having Nexus would grant a reduced bonus : +2 perhaps? This would only apply if LoneWolf had completed all Kai books (loyalty bonus). Even less obvious are the results of either Mindblast or Psi-surge. In the Improved Disciplines section of Psi-surge it states: Because of this potential effect, i just left the door as not immune to either Mindblast or Psi-surge. But perhaps a more sophisticated approach would be better. Something like, immune to Mindblast AND Psi-surge, unless LW has both Psi-surge and has reached the rank of Primate. And/Or perhaps the bonus should be reduced from +4 to something lower. Or perhaps bonuses from Mindblast and Psi-surge should still be applied, but at a reduced level, and with no (or lowered) penalty to EP if Psi-surge is used... And last of all - how best to alert players to these issues? in the "Fight" button tooltip?

Thinking of Book 6's door, you can avoid that one if you have either Psi-surge or Nexus in Book 6, passage 259, so the logic for book 7 seems to work for Psi-surge. I'd think the Primate level could be used, but simply having the discipline should work as well considering that. However, with the MOM variant, completing the Kai series would negate the unarmed penalty due to psychic bonuses, which I think some sort of penalty should be in play if you don't have Nexus. I'd think the easiest way to have a loyalty benefit and keep a penalty would be to allow only Mindblast from the Kai disciplines, since it confers only a +2 and using Psi-surge would supersede it. A tooltip when hovering over the fight button should work to address the issue regardless.
