I think it would be great a spin-off serie about Sun Eagle. It could consist of 7 book, one for each Lorestone, as the Magnakai serie.
Would you like if Joe Dever, or someone else under his license, wrote a serie inspired by the deeds of the first Kai Lord ? It would be a wonderful idea !!! We could take a look to the Magnamund in the past !!! WE could have a new Magnakai serie !!! ;D ;D ;D
There's no possibility that this could happen ? ?!?

I know that Joe wanted to make a spin-off series with Banedon, but there's still one big problem: publishers. Nobody wants to publish a series of gamebooks for some stupid reasons . The only solution then would be that Joe publishes these books on a website where we'll have to pay each time we download a book (like Barnett's website).

It could be a great solution for publishing all his remaining works... and to greatly develop the Lone Wolf's universe, too. I would pay for a thing like this...

You mention Barnett......dont know about this.....got any info....... Personally, you would be spending money to buy the books, so why not pay for it online......I know its not quite the same as having the feel of the book and all, but if its the only way to get new and otherwise unpublishable works......

And this is what has always puzzled me. We have all seen the horrid crap that publishers are willing to spit out just to keep their numbers up. So why not sign on a book series that has sold millions of copies?
One of the big houses could sign him on and never feel too much strain if the books didn't sell well. Online is a tremendously wonderful option...if only he'd consider it.
I'd even buy them from a POD house, what with the markup and all that's inherent with that method....
KL, who would do nearly anything to see the series finished

We have good writers in the community. Someone should just write it, someone else edit it, and a whole team of people proofread and playtest it, then we can publish it online. For free.

You'd first need JD's approval. For a free fanfic? Surely not...?

For a free fanfic? Surely not...? Well, the point is that series is still not finish, so it would be like taking the place of the real author without his authorization. Think that if you would like to do a Mission: Impossible 3, you won't get the authorization to make it because they are making the movie right now. But if you want to create a series that is only based on the original series, then I guess it would be OK.

Writing fan-fiction is ok if you manage to spread it over the net for FREE. If you want to do $$$, then you must pay the royalties to the author...
I think that, seriously, Joe Dever could consider to publish his work on the Internet. Well, it is not the same as the "paper" publishing, but how many things are sold across the Internet ?!? A lot of stuff !!! Consider that there are no expensive costs... and this doens't imply that you can't sell the books on paper, later.
It coulde be a nice way to complete the Lone Wolf serie... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Actually, while a good idea, it is harder to sell online then you'd think. Joe was probably thining of doing that, and in the end decided to skip piracy and other fun things by just offering it to us for free.
What's Joe working on these days, by the way?

What's Joe working on these days, by the way? Good question Zipp - I have to say I am kicking myself for not discussing that with Joe when I was at the recent Mongoose Open Day.....Doh! What I can confirm from my visit to Mongoose is that Joe did say he had all the material and just needed a publisher to consider taking on the responsibilty of printing the last 4 books. Maybe once publishers see all the interest and resulting success from Mongoose's RPG then they will see that it would be a winner. The only problem is that printing 4 books isn't really a worthwhile project for a publisher, even if they were to publish them on the net. Plus, its not as if we need a whole new set of reprinted LW books with another set of covers. I say we all gang up on Mongoose and get them to do it. This has got me thinking - I posted an article about my visit to Mongoose's Open Day in November and was thinking do you guys want me to post it here so everyone can enjoy it? Its about 1,500 words so let me know before I clog up the PA forum unnecessarily. Oops - forgot that there's a topic about the article already at the following: Topic

I did email Mongoose myself and ask them to consider publishing the books that Joe wrote. It sounds like they are still thinking about it. They are toying with the idea of printing converted gamebooks... you know, adventures for your characters that follow Joe's adventures word-for-word with new rules inserted.
I suggested that this would be a bad idea and that we want to see the books intact. I also suggested that we LOVE the new Mongoose books (I do!) and that they might make some nice money by republishing books that are literally ready to go.
The impression I get is that as RPG folks, they don't want to publish regular novel-sized books. But please email them and they might think twice!

Also regarding the legality of fan fiction, I believe it is considered a violation of copyright. Authors and publishers do tend to look the other way since these are small-time operations, but not all do!
I believe, for example, that JK Rowlings is very aggressive about maintaining her copyright. She is definitely against fan fiction, especially when it comes to Harry Potter.
Go figure!
All that said, I think Joe's attitude would be totally different. Why wouldn't it be? He already gave the rights to his first 20 books to the world... he WANTS Lone Wolf to live! It might be polite to leave book 29-32 off the list of fanfic gamebooks I would think, but I would guess that just about anything else would be fine.
