The Mirror of Death: this was, in a way, the "lost" magnakai quest, published as a computer game years ago. Allegedly, you received (in addition to the game) a copy of Plague Lords of Ruel in book form.
I read through the intro (which Project Aon made available under "other materials" on the download page) and was interested to find that the story is very much like "Castle Death." Even so, it is not quite the same story, and it is curious to see that many names were changed... was this the "original" Castle Death story? Or perhaps it is the Castle Death story Joe woulf have written if he had the time?
In the Mirror of Death, Lone Wolf seeks the Elder Magi in order to recover a lost LoreStone held by Gorazh, the dark sorcerer in his tower-prison called Kaazan-Gor. Of all the traps he has placed to protect the Lorestone, the most diabolical was the Mirror of Death - an evil artifact which, when gazed upon, would release a dark demon in the shape of the gazer, alike in many ways, but reflecting all the darkness and evil within the original.
This topic may be used to comment and speculate on the differences / commonalities between the Kaazan-Oud story and the Kaazan-Gor story and for any other general discussion regarding the "Lost Magnakai Quest."

Well, the Dark Lone Wolf sounds a lot like the guy from Wolf's Bane.
Obviously the premise is very similar... Bad guy in castle has a Lorestone that you need to get.
I would suggest that they started out as the same story, but Dever decided to go with one over the other for Book 7.
