Perhaps Star Lynx was just being polite? All the while he was thinking "would it be rude to ask for a swap for the Blue Steel Armour & some Fire seeds? This piece of crap is no better than my Kai Weapon!"

Incidentally, I had no idea you could substitute the dwarf weapons in your Big Moment of Unavoidable Stupid. I thought Dever was trying to force us to try other weapons.

Well, it is a big bad artifact made by Naar. You definately need a magical weapon of some power.
Would you risk your Kai Weapon or this slightly less powerful weapon you found?
When you find the wapons it says that you can use them as an alternative to your Kai Weapon.

Would you risk your Kai Weapon or this slightly less powerful weapon you found? Now you're bringing logic into it. Given the choice I would not use ANY weapon to attempt to destroy it, given that the Magi have already told me it is nearly impossible to destroy. Seized by a moment of madness however... Yeah, I would definitely use my most powerful weapon to destroy it! What could go wrong? Oh, shi...Damn!

I just finished playing LW 29 today. WOW. A tough adventure. A few comments.... Sect 79 ... so what if no 3rd and 5th backpack item, they were empty slots for me on this section. Sect 55 ... so Grand Huntmastery is of no use here? Sect 229 ...Riddle explanation is confusing. My logic was more simple. Oil phase separates from water, will go to the top so when you cup it back...so remains the same. Sect 73 ...compass is a backpack item? Takes up that much space? Sect 58...by the time I read this section, I said to myself that, "man, it always storms in Chai." Then I remembered the name of the book, so yeah, an accurate book name. Sect 54...never mind Huntmaster or Pathmanship never being surprised, you get ambushed? Sect 164 and many others, I think JD is using Mindblast, PsiSurge, GM Kaiblast fairly interchangeably in this book? I got even more surprised that really only Zashnor is partly immune to mindblast/PsiSurge. Normally all undead have mindblast immunity, so I wasn't sure I was right in using Mindblast/PsiSurge in this game on most opponents. Sect 342 and 60...Are Kluz stats reversed between these sections? I supposed the cursed Kirusami blade may cause this, but the accompanying text seems to indicate a benefit from having it. Sect 192 onward, I got really confused on the Eye of Agarash endurance loss "rules" and then "modifiers". The initial rules with -3EP or -1EP if have Grand KaiScreen is pretty straitforward. But what starts to confuse me is if Kenga's Ring provides full "stacked" protection with Kai-Screen that no damage is lost. It gets a little harder as later drains can be more than -3EP, so how much protection can Kai-Surge and Kenga's Ring provide? Sect 215...I gave Ren, not gold ! I did an exchange at the start of the adventure so I'd blend in more. The section seems dead-set that I gave only gold. Very interesting, or perhaps to be determined in LW30: There are TWO claws of Naar? The Story So Far indicated as much, as the original is supposedly in a secret protective location in Dessi. General Comment: Korlinium Satchel anyone? Please? You would think that the Elder Magi could spring for something to protect the NO GM from the Eye, or they were not expecting it to have evil radiation? I kept thinking they wouldn't treat Lone Wolf this way ! Anyway, I'll have to re-read it and see what other details I can pick up on.

Where to start... First of all, I think we all know to leave the kirusami in the ditch now. However, there are a LOT of errata- does anyone know if JD wants reports for correcting these before future editions? Nextly, the Ren thing- it seems to me that JD has given up on making a distinction between currencies. I too changed GCs for Ren (gambling GCs, accepting Ren in winnings, or buying with GC and selling for Ren), but it seems to make no difference throughout, unlike previous books the currencies are interchangeable. Perhaps, since finding all that gold in Ruanon, GCs have become like the dollar- accepted everywhere. As for Eye-burn it seems quite insignificant if you have Kai-Screen- I read it as just 1 no matter what the text states, with Kenga's this can be reduced to 0.

The riddle- don't get distracted trying to work out how much fluid of each type is transferred, the important fact is that there is an equal volume in each final mixture, meaning that every bit of oil that is transferred is replaced by an equal amount of water. Otherwise we would have transformed oil into water, or vice versa- possible for a Kai Alchemist maybe...? As for 2 Claws... May I assume you have not read the Bonus adventure?
PS. Don't expect the Magi to part easily with any of their Goodies- see my previous entries: they are tighter than a kloon's backside!

I kept thinking they wouldn't treat Lone Wolf this way ! Anyway, I'll have to re-read it and see what other details I can pick up on. 79: ditch nothing. I think this happens in quite a few books. 55: yes, not much other ways to interpret it. 229: Don't expect a riddle master to always give a clear explanation to a riddle. Someone might catch on. Otherwise Rusty Radiator already explained it. 73: A lot of that. Even keys and combs and similar take up back space spaces. 54: Yep. This usually happens once or twice in each GM adventure. Seems they can be taken by surprise, somehow. 164: Not sure they all are. The Kirusami is not necessarily overall beneficial. Some items are best not to take. Kengha's ring works in addition to Kai Screen, or without it. What is not so clear is if the ring works in combat vs Kluz and Zashnor. Claw of Naar is explained in the bonus adventure. You also receive explanations to many other things happening in the adventure by exploring it.

I quite enjoyed the bonus adventure- it was like a novella more than a gamebook. Good to have loads more info about Dessi & how it ticks (but frustrating to realise how stingey they are, given their resources!)

Thanks for the answers everyone.
It is great to see and review LW29 and discuss with everyone new material.
Although providing reviews can at times be a critical process, I really had fun reading this book and am so glad JD went the extra mile (and more) to release it.
Take care,

I quite enjoyed the bonus adventure- it was like a novella more than a gamebook. Good to have loads more info about Dessi & how it ticks (but frustrating to realise how stingey they are, given their resources!) Yes, I read the LW29 bonus adventure 2 weeks ago and really enjoyed it. It flowed very well, told a lot of story, and was very entertaining. ***SPOILER ALERT BELOW*** I don't think I picked the best disciplines, as it became clear when sucking Agarashi Willpower would have been very beneficial. Was there some LW ERPG inspired stuff in this story? The Calencia trick reminds me of the Festival of Ruanon assassination attempt. Good to hear about Darklord Khatleu (sp) again ! I'll say this, my initial choice of army formations early in the book was the worst possible and I knew I was dead before I read the ending. I couldn't decipher my Prophecy to figure out where to place the troops...the map indicates north but the enemy attack location descriptions in the Prophecy writeup didn't seem to match up directional. Or I just misinterpreted. I re-read and still couldn't see how to interpret the prophecy. The next 3/4 of the bonus adventure read and felt like a Dr. Who episode (in a good way). Multidimentional Ice Demon that can permanently phase door entrances around protections and seem to have considerably increased powers from LW3. Very good tie-in with the Story So Far and Section 350 ending. I must admit, the final mental challenge...Is the Ice Demon who you think it is..had me going and retracing events in my head, but in the end I chose correctly, just couldn't find the solid evidence to change sides, and glad I chose as I did. My endurance for the final fight was low, and my RNT numbers lousy. But WP was relatively high to do some additional heavy damage. I think I may have cheated, but surely I would never do that. OK, I only fudged a few Endurance points at the end. The bad guys are getting smarter and joining forces. It did give a chill down my spine to think of the possible damage that could do, with a united assortment of baddies. All in all, a very good bonus adventure.

I did appreciate the variety of this bonus adventure, and I loved the dilemma at the end. On the subject of the WP sucking power- does anyone have a clue how that was meant to work?

I have finally constructed an SVG flowchart for The Storms of Chai. I've uploaded it to my website here. From this, I have found what I think are five separate errors in the book: - Section 149 should link to 98 instead of 180.
- Section 262 should link to 246 instead of 218.
- Section 322 should link to 185 instead of 126.
- Section 337 should link to 185 instead of 126.
- Section 344 should link to 297 instead of 135.
The correction to Section 149 brings Section 98 back into the story (nothing else links to it) and fixes the incorrect transition from entering Xo Street to apparently having a conversation with someone. The correction to Section 262 brings Section 246 back into the story, since nothing else links to it. The correction also makes the transition to entering the forest much smoother. The corrections to Sections 322 and 337 restore the apothecary shop at the entrance to Maoshan Avenue at Section 185, which nothing else links to. The correction to Section 344 makes no difference to the gameplay whatsoever; Sections 297 and 135 are identical. However, as nothing else links to Section 297, correcting Section 344 to point to it makes sense to me as it ensures all numbered sections are now reachable. Phew! Any thoughts?
