When I have lost my left arm because I´m infected and want to climb the chimney in section 162 what happens then? Will I automatic die because I can´t fight the steamspiders with only one arm hanging in a hot chimney.

I thought that section addressed the problem by assigning Lone Wolf a CS penalty, but nonetheless...
My take is that the chimney is pretty narrow, and Lone Wolf is climbing by bracing his back against one wall and pushing with his legs: difficult with only one arm, but not impossible.

If you have Limbdeath, you can not fight them and must attempt to climb past the nest, taking a RN's worth of damage in the process, where 0=10.

And of course, this is LW 5. You almost certainly will get Limbdeath and never get the Oede until much much later! NS.

<Considered subject to spoilers> Well, there's only one path leading to limbdeath and the Oede. All other paths are leading to being captured and no Oede. I DID once came out of the sewers without limbdeath. But this resulted in capture and no Oede! And on the way from limbdeath to the Oede I never had more than a single fight.. (The easy Elix)

You can exit the sewers without limpdeath. It involves taking a different path at the first few choices in the sewers. That's how you can end up fighting the steam spiders with the use of your arm.

There is more than one way to get out of the sewers with our arm intact. One way goes up the chimneys, one leads to some other fun...

I always like the ad for the Fighting Fantasy books from your youth. Damn right! I did FF all through secondary school, found Lone Wolf halfway through and then encountered AD&D in Sixth Form NS.

I think what makes Oede so good is the 10-point boost. I mean, all that for just 1 space in your backpack - awesome!
Sometimes I think that the Alether is better tho, if you
escape the sewers without limbdeath and then try to fight Maok... MAN why can I never kill him!
But it is a judgement call. Will having an extra 2 CS in a tough fight prevent you from losing more than 10 EP overall? If yes, the Alether is better!
Unless you need it for a munchkin-concoction where you mix Laumspur, Oede, and Rendalim's Elixir together in the Silver Flask in order to face the 100-EP blast in Deathlord of Ixia... to each his own!
