I just found your excellent collection and am starting to work my way through on the Android app. A quick question: is it possible to access the save files so I can transfer progress between devices or to the web app? I couldn't find them so assume they are saved somewhere that requires root access. It's already implemented, from v1.9

I just wanted to thank you for this great implementation and express my hopes you will carry on to add more books!

Hi,
First, I want to thank you for this great job, and Project Aeon, allowing us to (re)play beautiful adventures of Lone Wolf !
I'm interested to add French support, but it is not specified in Project Aon License, can new languages be added ? (maybe not the good place in forum to ask)
I've began works and have few remarks and questions: - manage properly language (at this time, only en or es), I'll push a PR with a select box, allowing more languages to be easily added. - is there a doc to identify all translations available in ts/views/viewsUtils/translations.ts ? (note that I can hack the function to print unresolved translation id) - Do you have news from raoul632 regarding its proposal ? (avoiding to duplicate effort)
Regards, Murlock

(avoiding to duplicate effort) Regards, Murlock Hello, there is no license problems to translate the application itself. I mean: UI, application messages, etc (anything on github). But I don't know if books can be translated. I suspect no (I have found this: projectaon.proboards.com/thread/2178/project-aon-french), but I don't know. "manage properly language": Currently the UI / messages language is linked to the current book language. If you want to translate UI / messages, but no the book text, you will need to change that. It will be a bit strange to have the UI with a given language, and the book text with other... If you think its a good idea (I'm not sure), go on, I'll check the PR. Keep in mind I don't know French, so if new messages/views are added to the UI, somebody else should translate them before each new release. "is there a doc to identify...": I have write the basics at github.com/tonib/kaichronicles/issues/13 , to avoid technical stuff here. "Do you have news from raoul632 regarding its proposal?" Sorry, I did not reply to raoul632: If the XML is the PAON book data, probably not. Cheers!

Thank you for your work. I really like your idea of the mechanics XML. As you project is open source would also add the app to the F-Droid store to promote free and open software?

Hello, playing your app on my phone (Android) for the first time. Some issues I've noticed and a few suggestions:
Suggestion - Add an option to the settings menu to start a new game (re-roll a character). It took me 6 books to figure out that I need to press the back button on my phone when not in the action chart to access the main menu if I want to use that option. Suggestion - Change the "save game" option to "save and quit", and remove "restore a saved game" from the choices when you die. That'll prevent people from save-scumming the books. Suggestion - An extension of the above, consider saving a snapshot of the action chart when starting a book in section 1. Then add that option to restart the book at section 1 if you die. That way, you don't have to go through and re-do Disciplines and equipment. Keep the option to completely restart the book, though, in case you want to pick different Disciplines or equipment options. Suggestion - Implement a damage-type system that tracks damage taken in combat (and combat-like situations) and other damage that is technically not restore-able via Healing disciplines. Suggestion - Add a "random discipline" button that will randomly select the proper number of initial disciplines, as well as your bonus discipline each book from the choices remaining. Suggestion - Add a Seventh-Sense-like achievement system. Something like this is a lot of work, but it is a great feature, and adds a lot of replayability to the books.
General - Pretty sure meals taken from the Equipment sections of the books count as one pick each, not the entire stack. General - You are erroneously allowed to apply multiple Alether effects per combat. You are always limited to one (the berries you can purchase in book 6 even explicitly say so). General - You are erroneously allowed to use healing items (Laumspur, etc.) in combat sections before combat has started. Healing items are only to be used in combat sections after combat is over (and if you're still alive and not evading combat). Book 1, Section 88 - It doesn't say so explicitly, but the Spear is capitalized, thus you should be able to take and equip it as a normal weapon. There's no such option. Book 2, Section 290 - According to the text, you need to eat a meal from your backpack in this section (using Hunting is not feasible) or lose 3 EP. There's no prompt to eat a meal and I didn't lose 3 EP. Book 5, Section 166 - You cannot use a Shield when afflicted by Limbdeath. I possessed one here but it was still equipped and still gives the bonus according to the action chart. It is applied in combat as well. Book 5, Section 27 - I was under the impression that whenever you may purchase potions from a store that you can only buy one of each. That's not the case here, you may purchase as many as you have the money and space for. This is not consistent with the potion shop in Luyen in book 6 - there you can only purchase one of each. Book 6 (and beyond) - If you successfully complete all the books of the previous series (in this case, Kai 1-5), you are awarded a loyalty bonus in which, regardless of the Magnakai Disciplines you choose, you can benefit from Healing (1 EP per non-combat section), Hunting (able to hunt for food except for wasteland and indoors/cave/underground areas), Weaponskill (+2 CS if you're equipped with the weapon in which you are skilled), and Mindblast (+2 CS if the enemy is not immune). None of these seem to be implemented. Book 6 (Equipment) - I failed my first attempt at the book (mis-clicked one of the 339s in the sewer, lol) and when I restarted, I found that all the items I had stored in the monastery in book 5 were gone! The storage page was completely empty on my 2nd attempt.

Great game very exciting story you are to be congratulated, but I really could not understand the mathematics behind the battles, how it works. Can tell me ?

Have to say I love the books thus far and since everything is absolutely free, with no adds and no freemium. Due, in part to Joe Denver's very generous internet open sourcing of the books but the development team of Kai Chronicles have also broken the mould as the books could have simply been released in ereader format, so I know the massive amount of work that must go into making these gamebooks run more like a text based adventure and less like a book and as such don't want to sound impatient when I ask if book 11 (The Prisoners of Time) will be released in 2018. The last two books were a batch release so (not knowing much about the development of Kai Chronicles) I'm curious as to when the next book (or books) will be released. A ballpark figure will be fine great and even then I know that unexpected things happen and developers may be putting their energy into something completely different, especially as this project isn't one that pays by the hour, though if you're accepting donations I would be happy to donate (I'll check to see if you have a donation option after posting). I can understand if you don't want to say anything about development too, as if you say X will be released by Y and that doesn't happen you run the risk of letting people down, not that I would mind, as I said before; things happen that can pit development on hold. Even a confirmation that you are still working on adding new books to Kai Chronicles would be awesome, I've been.checking twice weekly since June hoping for a new release and every time there is one, it's like Christmas has come early.
I guess in the meantime I'll start an entirely new game and see how this one plays out, only problem is that I seem to have made the best choices previously (by savescumming at parts until about book 4 where I decided only to save at an inn, or when I rest. I suppose I could make things interesting with only a limited amount of saves per book.
An excellent addition would be difficulty modes (mainly revolving around when and where you can save) and for one of the hardest modes adding an item you can use to save the game that only works in certain locations and uses up a special item slot, though I would love to see every book added before new difficulty modes and items are added, after all this was designed to be pen(cil) and paper so if people want to play the game that way for now they can use their imagination and a piece of paper.
Really looking forward to more releases and if you can say anything (even if it's simply "we are still working on Kai Chronicles") about your development schedule, that would be great! -David

The storage page was completely empty on my 2nd attempt. Hello. First of all, this is a Good Report, thank you. What I did:"Add an option to the settings menu to start a new game.."Easy, done "Book 1, Section 88 - It doesn't say so explicitly, but the Spear is capitalized, thus you should be able to take"
Easy, Done, but... Really LW will take the weapon of a dying soldier? It is not an English errata? (In Spanish is not capitalized) "Book 2, Section 290 - According to the text, you need to eat a meal from your backpack..."Will be fixed on next version "Book 5, Section 166 - You cannot use a Shield when afflicted by Limbdeath..."Will be fixed on next version "Book 6 (Equipment) - I failed my first attempt at the book (... and when I restarted, I found that all the items I had stored in the monastery in book 5 were gone!"This is a Horrible Bug (sorry). It happened when you restarted the book, after a death, or at Settings > Restart book. Will be fixed on next version What I didn't:"Change the "save game" option to "save and quit", and remove "restore a saved game" from the choices when you die"As far I know, On Android / Web there is no "quit" concept. Only back > back > back... "An extension of the above, consider saving a snapshot of the action chart when starting a book in section 1" "Add a "random discipline" button that will randomly select the proper number of initial disciplines"That would be nice, added to the pending work. "You are erroneously allowed to apply multiple Alether effects per combat""You are erroneously allowed to use healing items (Laumspur, etc.) in combat sections before combat has started"Agree, added to the pending work. "Book 6 (and beyond) - If you successfully complete all the books of the previous series (in this case, Kai 1-5), you are awarded a loyalty bonus..."Agree, already reported (https://github.com/tonib/kaichronicles/issues/5) "Pretty sure meals taken from the Equipment sections of the books count as one pick each, not the entire stack"I'm not so sure. Book 4, "You may take your pick of the following items". And one item is "2 Special Rations (Meals). Each of these Special Rations counts as one Meal, and each takes up one space in your Backpack". Let the player choose. "Book 5, Section 27 - I was under the impression that whenever you may purchase potions from a store that you can only buy one of each..."There are "bottles" and you buy "doses"... I don't know. Let the player choose. "Implement a damage-type system that tracks damage taken in combat (and combat-like situations) and other damage that is technically not restore-able via Healing disciplines"Sorry, but I didn't understand this Cheers!

"Implement a damage-type system that tracks damage taken in combat (and combat-like situations) and other damage that is technically not restore-able via Healing disciplines"Sorry, but I didn't understand this LW suffers damage during the combat system - restorable via Healing/Curing or any other method (Laumspur, a good night's rest, a nutritious meal, an uneventful week at sea, etc.) LW, escaping from a pursuing horde of enemy soldiers during a battle, is hit in the leg with an arrow and loses 4 EP - restorable via Healing/Curing or any other method LW lands poorly when jumping from height to ambush an enemy - restorable via Healing/Curing or any other method LW has no food when instructed to eat and loses 3 EP - not restorable via Healing/Curing, but is restorable via any other method LW loses a variable amount of EP trying to remove evil mind-controlling jewelry - not restorable via Healing/Curing, but is restorable via any other method LW unwittingly eats a poisoned meal and, while still alive, loses 5 EP to internally combat the poison - not restorable via Healing/Curing, but is restorable via any other method LW suffers tremendous pain from a hostile Mindblast outside of the combat system - not restorable via Healing/Curing, but is restorable via any other method This is how Seventh Sense handles it. I think it's a pretty neat feature that strictly follows the text description of the healing disciplines, giving them a much-needed nerf, as well as making the other restorative methods far more valuable.

The plan is to support books 11 and 12 this month or in September (2018). There are no plans to support more books. Cheers! Thanks for the response, that's excellent news that the Magnakai series of books will be finished soon. You said you have no plans to work on any more books (which I take to mean the grand master series & other Joe Dever books); is there a specific reason for this or do you just feel like you wish to end the development cycle (I've never read the books as on paper or as e-books, shame on me; I know) so I don't know if the grand master series will differ greatly from the Kai and Magnakai series) and simply want to finish things up now or are you potentially going on to develop other (non Kai book related) projects? I'd love to see some good gamebooks on the android store as one time purchases, I tried one or two free ones but they all had some sort of money milking premium currency so if you're wrapping up the Kai Chronicles project with these last two books and decide to go into making gamebooks of your own, I would love of they were one time purchase deals rather than the freemium ones. Unless of course you need to work on other stuff (which I won't go poking my nose into), in which case; best wishes. Really looking forward to books 11 and 12 and you've done a great job so far at bringing classic gamebooks to a new audience with an excellent app. Cheers -David
