Interesting roguelike playmode for sure! No healing between book 1 and 2 makes it a bit tougher when trying to explore the first book, get new loot, but then dying at the Harbor Thugs. So the new Hardcore Epic Fail? award for book 3 doesn't show up anywhere (just saw the icon and text but is not listed in my awards)? For some reason I had a bad feeling before attempting it but anyway. :-P Also Sommerswerd is getting worse every book? I guess that it's a feature, otherwise you wouldn't need new weapons. And beware! Not everything is what it once was, not everything is what it seemed to be.... Indeed...

Equipment section in book 1 is greyed out, but I can still click next on the Kai Disciplines section, and get to pick starting equipment. In fact it won't let me start the book without doing so. Then gold doesn't show up in my inventory, but I got the axe and a chainmail (random pick). Not sure what is intended. Also I'm disappointed if the Nhang doll doesn't have any use

When completing Book 1 after a fresh start, it now defaults to Custom rules.

I completed two runs up to book 6, here are my thoughts:
Random weapon bonuses are fun, especially with the distinction between +CS or +dmg. I encountered from -2 to +4 CS. I'm a bit sad some harder to get weapons like the Magic Spear, Fine Broadsword or Card Sharp's Dagger are nothing special anymore.
No Healing discipline at all, I like it. For GM we will eventually get Healing though, right? Would be pretty much mandatory as a sixth skill, so Alchemy/Magi won't be available.
No storage at all even from book 5 onwards. Is this intentional?
I barely found any Artefacts, but I also didn't deviate much from my optimum paths. While it could be interesting to search the books for Artefacts, no healing and series restart make this a very difficult task. All I found is the bulging pouch (if that count's as an Artefact, probably not as a backpack item) for infinite money (but you lose it in book 2) after the burrowcrawler and the Ornate Crown in the graveyard of ancients sarcophagus, don't know what this does though.
I don't know how the SS is supposed to work with losing its power. I tried not using it to conserve its power but that did'nt work. As it is, it is very overpowered in book 3, strong in 4 and nothing special from 5 onwards. I guess there will later be some way to repower it?
How far are we supposed to test this version? Up to book 6 only or up to 13?

I don't know if I'm supposed to play this yet, but I'm stuck at the riddle in book 7 (section 100). Is there a clever trick to it? (I tried not stealing the Heavy Sword) Because, unless you have Invisibility, Pathmanship or Divination (I don't), this path inevitably leads to death, which can't be right. I haven't tried Skeleton Key yet, but it should have the same result as using Nexus, I would think.
Also I found a Golden Charm Artefact in book 7. Don't know what it does though.

Artifacts:
The only one with any noticeable effect that I found was the crystal star pendant (and the infinite gold pouch). Not sure if it's worth having sixth sense just for that.
I would also hazard a guess that the book 1 Alether is improved, considering the trouble that you have to go through in order to get it. Especially now with low stats, making it almost unobtainable.

Those were never anything on Hardcore, but named weapons might indeed have (hidden) bonuses now. More of a consequence of the immediate start thingy. I might turn off the Special Items limit to compensate. Would that subsitute for storage, or do you or other people still prefer it? Indeed, most artifacts are deliberately not on the optimum path, even the easy to find one's. I think I will ease the difficulty of the Kai series a bit to facilitate being able to explore the books. As far as you can go. There is an.... "obstacle", somewhere.

Well, the riddle at section 100 doesn't have an answer option (deliberately it seems), so you have to go to 270. There you need one of Skeleton Key, Nexus or Blue Pills to free yourself from the flooding room, which all eventually leads to 172. This section is now changed and leads directly to 46, where you will die 100% without Invisibility, Pathsmanship or Divination.
Unless you drastically changed other paths in the book, you have to go through the riddle at 100. And unless there is a clever way to pass the riddle that I can't figure out, you're doomed without those three skills.

I will say no more for now.

As mentioned in the release thread, there is a list of Artifacts at the top of the thread now, in the order which they can be found. There are several new Hardcore items done but they will land in another patch.
