Hey gang! New to the forums but not to LW or Project Aon.
I read these books when I was pretty young....I got book 1 and 2 on vacation in Washington DC because I was (and am) a book hound and had forgotten to bring something to read while away from home.
I fell in love with the high adventure, the fact you could make decisions about the characters and be daring and heroic! I just wish that I could erase my knowledge of the books from memory so I could have the experience of reading them all over again for the first time.
And does not Joe Dever rock so so hard for allowing Project Aon to print these?
In this age of whiny music companies, publishing companies, gaming companies, and film studios all waging war against the public trying to protect their precious copyrights and whining about internet publishing stealing "their money", that an author would see how beloved his creations are to his fans and give the gift of allowing someone to publish them openly and freely is so fantastic.
He is truly an artist and a gentleman.
Anyway, I was so happy when I found ProjectAON and could play the books all over again, even past book 12 which I have never even known existed.
I am also impressed to see that errata has been published and updated to show us how to better enjoy the books.
Now that I've been blubbering on and on, I do have a couple questions for all the LW gamebook rules experts.
I'm not sure there if there is an easy place to search for answers to questions, if there is, someone please point it out but here goes:
1. Starting in Book 6, when you initially choose three Magnakai disciplines, I assumed based on textual references that since you were a Kai Master, you had all the normal Kai disciplines.
If that is indeed the case, then wouldn't you continue to see the benefits from these Kai Disiciplines paying off?
-Weaponskill would still grant +2 CS for your chosen weapon in addition to any bonuses from Weaponmastery;
-Mindshield would still protect your mind, and taking Psi-shield simply adds another layer of protection;
- Healing would still give you the ability to heal one EP per noncombat numerical passage. Taking the Magnakai Discipline of Curing would up this to 2 EP per noncombat numerical passage;
-Hunting would still prevent you from going hungry in the wild when you didn't have a Meal;
-Mindblast would still serve you by attacking your enemy's minds and giving +2 CS even if you didn't take the Magnakai Discipline of Psi-surge.
Those are the Kai Disciplines that give inherent numerical bonuses but could to apply to the others too -
Mind over Matter would still allow you to move that spade to divert the Drakkar's attention; Sixth Sense would still give you preternatural danger sense; Tracking would still allow you to track things; your ability to Camoflage would still keep you from an enemy's sight; and Animal Kinship still allows you to make friends with the furries.
Or am I wrong in this?
The way I played these books growing up was that you sort of "lose" the Kai Disciplines and any bonuses from them when you became a Kai Master and start on the Magnakai Discipline route.
Has this ever been discussed?
Sorry for long long post.
