It is with great sadness that I announce the writer of the Legends of Lone Wolf series, Paul Barnett (aka John Grant), passed away on 3 February 2020.
I was shocked to hear this, as I'd only emailed him a few days ago and thought it out of character for him not to get back to me right away. I've been in contact with him off and on now for the last 20 years or so. We first began corresponding on the Kai Wisdom email list. The likes of Julian Egelstaff and Jonathan Blake will remember Paul's frequent contributions, and how honoured we all were to be able to chat with him.
I trust this announcement will open the floodgate for the obituaries.
Sincerely
Lawrence Ritchie

Really sad news. I have all the books of legends of lone wolf and I believe that they were really good. R.I.P. John Grant.

That's sad. I've always wanted to read the Legends of Lone Wolf as I've read of lot of comments about them on these forums, both positive and negative, but I wanted to make my own mind about them. The fact that the planned reimpression of the novels in an omnibus format never came to be is disappointing. I wish the best for his family.

The Lone Wolf fan community is in mourning. He left behind a lot of good stuff and I'll especially remember his huge contribution for fleshing out key evil bad guys such as Vonotar, Gnaag and the Nadziranim. I'm especially sad because I managed to meet in person, or correspond with, nearly all the actors who made Magnamund what it is today - to John Grant's notable exception. Now it's alas too late. Rest in peace sir, thanks for everything !

Yes, sad indeed. At age 46, I do deeply regret the passing of Robert Ekblad, Brian Williams, Joe Dever, and now Paul Grant. I missed collaborating with Robert and it is truly a loss.

RIP Mr. Barnett. Although I did not like many of his takes or characters, I also thought many sections were superb and they put me in the world of Magnamund in a different way than the gamebooks. I'll always believe that someone on Game of Thrones stole the ice stairs section from him that they have Jon Snow do in the show (apparently, that doesn't happen in the books?)
