In games I've bean playing off and on for over 10 years I have a couple of casters, a Sage & a Wytch Child. I've found the adept complements these classes and fills holes in their magical abilities, that can be very useful if you are the only regular caster in the party.
The Sage took Spellcraft as his primary magic, as a sideline he took levels of Adept taking Brotherhood spells as his Talent , as I said after a decade + of play I've got him up to Level 40 with 20 levels of Sage and 20 levels of Adept.
for my Wytch Child she is level 19 Wytch and level 20 Adept, after taking Counterspell at lv1 adept she took Elder Arts starting with Alchemy as well as Sorcery & Enchantment, picked up Jewelcraft at level 10 so I've got all the cool toys, got lots of XP still in hand, much more than needed to reach lv40, but can't rise a circle of Wytches to let me do the final rite.
still play bothe characters a couple of times a year, the Wytch more often, doesn't feel like cheating wish there was a Psychic advanced class that I could pick up for the Wytch, and thinking of taking levels of Emissary for the Sage just so they can keep improving as I continue to play them.

Nice to see someone is still playing the d20 version of Lonewolf. I began a game about 16 years ago with some friends. All of whom had been playing and DMing Dungeons & Dragons games since they were teenagers. None of which had ever played any of the Lonewolf choose your own adventure books in the past. It was my hope that they would become enamored with the setting as I had and rush off and play the gamebooks. I had told them all about the books and how awesome they were and even showed them this website were they could play them for free. Alas, none of my 4 players attempted any of the books. Although, one player did surprise me by printing out the Magnamund companion and using some of the info inside it to generate a backstory for his player. Another still talks quite fondly about his Sage of Lyris character, and has made a few attempts with other game systems to recreate him. Finally a third player, 4 years after our game had ended, informs me that he is currently reading Flight from the Dark. To my knowledge, he made it as far as the Kingdoms of Terror dying against the Dakomyd I believe. Your post has reminded me of the good times we had playing the game, so thank you for that, now that we are all older and (hopefully) a little wiser, I might attempt a revival game with my friends.

funny thing is mid November was the last time we played, my Sage and a failed attempt at a new campaign, got through reading your post about 10 hours ago and the GM of our regular game has had to go in to Quarantine since his boss who has bean traveling returned an inconclusive test, so his whole work place has had to go in to quarantine until they can return at least two negative tests, first test was today, 2nd should be on Friday, the soonest he can clear is Monday.
the call went out and the leading choice for a replacement game for mid week and this weekend is D20 LW since we haven't played it in a wile.

Nice! Glad I was able to send some good Lonewolf karma your way. Out of curiosity, what kind of monsters are you guys fighting at 40th level? Or is it, at this point just mostly roleplaying and political intrigue?

Mostly high level Mortals or small groups of mid level mortals, the occasional minor Darklords, 20 levels of a supporting role is only about as good as 10 levels of a PC class, and given both are Caster classes that kind of further reduces the broader utility
the Sage Casts like a 15th level dedicated caster with 6 brotherhood spells and 10 "Cantrips", he fights like a 25th level Fineness fighter with light armor and weapon, so about as good as a 15th level normal fighter.
the Wytch casts like a 35th level dedicated caster, but that's mostly ritual casting, due to low strength, restricted weapon options and no armor I'd rate her as less than a 10th level fighter.
They mostly Solo these days and there is less Combat and it's mostly Logic Puzzles and Role Playing.
