Hi everyone!
Long time LW fan here. Recently, found my entire collection in my parents home and reliving the good old days. Nostalgic!
I do have a question about calculating EP bonuses.
I am currently battling the Chaosmaster and it is tough battle. My EP stats have been boosted as follows
Base - 29
Chainmail - +4 Lore Circle of Fire and Spirit - +5 TOTAL - 38
After the battle has ended, do you remove the +9 bonus points to EP from LW? My understanding is that the +9 is only applicable during combat and once it is over, should revert to LW's base EP. In other words, when LW EP hits 9, he is considered dead.
Or
Do you just treat the 38EP as all of LW's health and once it hits 0, LW is dead?

Well the first interpretation would render the EP bonuses basically meaningless, no? I've always assumed the lore circles increased your base CS and EP forever, not just in combat, while the likes of the Chainmail and Padded Leather Waistcoats increased your EP until you took them off. If you're down to 3EP and you take the Chainmail Waistcoat off you basically die. I think it's a tricky one to visualise and make sense of but that's kind of the only way I think you can.

Two things here. First, the Lorecircles bonuses mean that LW got better with training over time. His Endurance rose because of all the work he did, like an athlete. He is in better physical shape. It is now part of him and you cannot remove that.
Second, the Chainmail. Most people think that this piece of equipment (like any other protective armour), since it protects your body, is the first thing to get damaged in combat when you lose Endurance (of course, it doesn't get damaged by lack of sleep or hunger or psychic attacks, only by physical damages). When the protection it grants is gone (in this case, after you lost 4 EP), it's your body that gets hurt. In other words, it doesn't make sense to die because you remove your Chainmail because it has already lost its protective bonus.
Over the course of your adventure, you'll lose EP, be it in combat, by lack of food, by falling from a cliff, etc. As long as you have the Chainmail, it will protect you against some physical damages, like being hit by an arrow outside of combat, by triggering a booby trap, etc. So it does protect you even when you are not in combat, so you can keep the bonus. As for regaining EP, that is up to you to decide when you regain (read "repair") the EP granted by the Chainmail: after eating a meal, you have regained 3 EP. Maybe you took the time during that meal to repair your damaged Chainmail? You had a good night of sleep and regained 4 EP: maybe you've fixed the Chainmail before going to sleep?
But the easiest way to see this regarding the Chainmail is that it grants a permanent bonus unless you get rid of it and when you do, it is only your max EP score that is affected, not your current total.

Hi kolinovic and Black Cat, that makes a lot of sense that the Lore Circle bonuses is due to LW getting better over time. I guess the easiest way to interpret the Chainmail is to just see it as a permanent bonus. Thanks for the clarification!

Black Cat interpretation's is, more or less, the same I used for Lone Wolf Saga: If you equip the Chainmail, it will boost your max EP, so your current EP will stay the same. Drink a potion after equipping the Chainmail and your current EP will rise over your "original" max EP, up to the maximum granted by the Chainmail. (with the same effect taking place for any curative effect) Remove (or lose) the Chainmail when you are at full EP, your maximum EP will drop by the amount granted by the Chainmail, and so will your current EP; however, should you lose it or remove it when already wounded (having your current EP already below your original max EP), your current EP will not diminish.
Obviously, the same also goes for the Silver Helm, Padded Leather Waistcoat, Bronin Vest, and all the other protective gear you could find during gameplay

This makes complete sense to me! I was able to defeat the Chaos Master after some lucky rolls and move on to Book 12!
